Editorial Review for 60 Thompson – by Sandra Ramani
The Scene
Tucked away on a quiet street behind a birch-tree facade, this discreet hotel manages to blend modernity and sophistication without sacrificing comfort and warmth. Designed by Aero Studios' Thomas O'Brien, who's also done residences for Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren, the hotel's plush lounge/lobby features a super-sized banquette, gorgeous flowers and original artwork.
The Details
All 98 crisp, airy rooms and suites feature Frette linens and robes, marble-and-mosaic bathrooms, Fresh bath products, high-speed Internet access and DVD/VCRs. In-room pantries are stocked with treats from Dean & Deluca and suites include an extra "spa" drawer filled with beauty booty. The stunning Thompson Loft duplex penthouse boasts two private roof decks and a four-poster bed. Rental movies, CDs, laptops, cell phones and personalized stationery are also available. Some suites have access to the rooftop garden, which has stunning 360-degree views of the city.

My wife and I stayed here -- I like boutique hotels in NYC. I liked the modern look of the rooms; my wife found them a bit austere. My real complaint is that I wanted to get a drink at the bar at the top of the hotel. My wife and I went there at 8 PM to find a private party that was over at 10. Fair enough. So we go back at ten, the place is still hopping. We were turned away as decidedly unhip. Staff and management got upset when i complained, but essentially did nothing. For $450 I'll be damned if I'll take that treatment.
Pros: Great location, beautfiul interiors, generally nice staff
Cons: Don't expect to see the rooftop bar.

This Hotel tries desperately to be something it will never be. Lets start with the outdated staff. I was not able to get a single answer from anyone. Apparently there is only one person in the entire buliding that has answers to the goings on at 60 Thompson. I stayed at this place for a get away based on some of the reviews. I was informed...without much prying..by the front desk staff that the positive reviews have been posted by the STAFF!!! (SURPRISE!) this is the oldest trick in the book..and I unfortunately fell for it. No one seems to care about the guests and the concierge never knows what's going on. The managers are cluless and the 'secret answer person'..one who can tell you where to have a good dinner even....is never around. Shame on you 60 T, what a waste of a beautiful space.
