Editorial Review for Holiday Inn – by Robyn Galbos
In Short
Since its 1952 debut in Memphis, Tenn., Holiday Inn has become one of the most recognized hotel brands in the world. Kids rule here: Children age 19 and younger stay for free when sharing a parent's room and as many as four children per family (age 12 or younger) eat for free at hotel restaurants. Other amenities include 24-hour business services, an in-room coffeemaker, iron, hair dryer, room service, a swimming pool and a fitness center.

The hotel is located in a secluded alley off Gold Street, which is rather dark at night & can be quite intimidating. The nearby Fulton station doesn't offer any consolidation as well - it is one of the dirtiest subway station in Manhattan. If you like the night life, choose other hotels in Midtown or Times Sq area instead. This hotel really is better suited to customers working in the Wall St district (which is really nearby) On a plus side, many attractions are nearby (NYSE, WTC, South Street Seaport, Liberty, Chinatown, etc) and within walking distance. Problem is really when you have to go out at night - it can be quite intimidating. Room wise, I am quite pleased. It is not the most superb, but with desktop & net access in every room, who can complain?
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Dark alley at night

An 8-story building directly across the (very narrow) street from the Holiday Inn has been in the process of being demolished for three months now (Feb '03). Jackhammer-like noises fill the air from 7am until 5 in the evening, Mon-Fri. As a resident of a nearby apartment building, I can assure you that the racket is disturbing, to say the least. With the typical pace of construction in New York, this is likely to continue for many more months. Be forewarned.
Pros: convenience to WallSt
Cons: LOUD during the AM, Dark, Narrow Street
