The Scene
With multi-colored sofas like jelly blocks, 24-foot video screens and a mysterious blue balloon sculpture suspended above the lounge, the former tennis court of the Health Racquet Club has morphed into the stunning new watering hole above Bowlmor Lanes. Since its soft ceiling is supported by pumped-in air (continually checked by gauges around the room), Pressure is aptly named.
The Draw
The late-20s crowd is mainly overflow from the khaki-heavy bowling scene downstairs, but the bar's kick-back lounge music, dimly lit gray pool tables and cocktail menu make for an inviting vibe that will likely draw a swankier crowd. Sip a luscious watermelon martini (rimmed with sugar) and head to the back to catch a secret game of Twister, permanently tattooed onto the carpet.

The vibe was great, fun idea with the pool tables and i loved the music--- but it was also very slow for a Friday night! The party WAS booked in advanced and yet when we got to the door the bouncer (who looked like maybe he was hitting the bottle a little to much within his life time) had no idea about it and gave us a hard time trying to get in! So after about 5 minutes we finally get upstairs and they did not give us the correct room which was intended, but the host of the party said it would be fine- so we dealt with it. The service was not the best,*the bartender WAS fun though! gay guys usually are ;) * the guy over seeing our party was very rude and when asked if we could extend our time he flat out lied to my friends face saying " nope no way" and then once her aunt came over he says "oh yeah fine NO problem." Also TWICE, when i was in the bathroom a male worker came INSIDE the bathroom(yes he knocked and asked if somebody was in there, but came ALL the way into the bathroom as opposed to waiting at the door, and once i said" YES someone is in here" he still finished about his task of the garbage.) That made me so angry and so uncomfortable and violated and when trying to explain to the NEW manager over looking the party(the other one felt it was time to go home and pass on the party to someone else) he explained to me that it was the male workers job. Sorry but it is NO mans job to come in the ladies room once one has spoken and shes on the freakin toilet!! They should be happy i do not call a lawyer about that to see my rights! ALL night long the bouncers KEPT watching our party which made for a very uncomfortable time(who wants to dance and enjoy them selves when they have 2-3 bouncers flat out STARING AT YOU the whole time!!- thats NOT fun) Overall the experience SUCKED i do NOT encourage ANY one to bother here! There are so many other amazing places in this city! i will say the idea/ vibe was just okay- music was awesome, pool & friends are always fun.
Pros: Ambience, music and gay bartender was fun
Cons: HORRIBLE service, NOT worth the money AT ALL!!!

This year I attended my first New Years Eve night out in NYC... every other year I have been at the apartments of various friends for parties. I had heard all NYE bar/lounge/club parties are not worthile... too expensive, difficult to get drinks, crowded, basically not fun. Well Pressure was great. There was barely a line to get into the place, which is centrally located near Union Square just above Bowlbor Lanes. The bar wasn't crowded at all, and our party included 4 hours of top-shelf liquor (which, to my surprise, was actually served -- not nice bottles filled with junk booze). Even the coat check was efficient. The crowd was almost entirely people ages 22-25 and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Everyone in my crew (nearly 30 people) enjoyed themselves. The DJ played music that kept most people dancing and the projection screen TVs were perfect when the ball dropped at midnight... the rest of the time the screens showed trippy color animations that worked well with the general ambiance of the venue. The lounge areas were wide and clean and provided anyone who decided to get bottle service plenty of room for friends. One drawback was the location of the 'dance room', which many people couldn't find -- apparently it's down a short corridor that looks like it goes to a bathroom or kitchen. Once I found that room I was even happier... the whole room glows red and has low ceilings to create a small side room for dancing. The main dance floor is just off the bar area, which provides nearly 360 degrees of drink ordering. There were also pool tables that many party-goers opted to make use of, which in my opinion provided another amenity that many clubs and lounges lack. Overall I had a great night and the crowd at the NYE party was just what I was looking for. I would recommend Pressure to anyone looking to have a good time at an upscale lounge -- it definitely isn't as pretentious as locations such as Taj, Bed, or Duvet, but it's just as fun.
Pros: Good Crowd, Great Ambience, Large Spaces, Great Music and Dancing
Cons: Some of my friends paid too much $$$$ for a New Years Eve party
