Great midtown place

by Nadnerb42780 at Citysearch

I threw a surprise party for my fiance. The owners and staff could not have been more accommodating and pleasant. I approached the owners a month before the party and they as helpful as I could have asked for. It was a busy Saturday night during the holiday season and I can't believe how well everything went. The second floor party room was perfect for the 40 or so guests that came to celebrate. The appetizers that were brought out by the wait staff were perfect. They even lit the candles, cut the cake that we brought, and served it to the guests. Some of the guests even ordered their own dinners, which were brought out right away. Bartender was excellent too! Thanks to Paul and Ann for a great evening with friends and family!

Very Impressed

by Ladderman at Citysearch

I was very impressed with Hurley's. The food, beer, and service were great. First the beer...Pros-they have a large selection of draft beers. Cons-a little pricey at $6.25 per pint, but this is New York City.

Food...The Lobster Bisque was very good and had chunks of crab meat in it. I had the Yellow Fin Tuna, which was prepared exactly as I asked. My wife had the Tuscan half chicken, which she said was excellent. My son had the Berry Hill chicken, which I tasted, and was very good. The pricing for the food was way below what I expect to pay in NYC, especially with the size of the portions they serve. The total bill for our meal and drinks came to $99...2 soups, 3 entrees, 4 draft beers and a coke.

Server... Our server was right on top of everything. We never had to wait for anything.

If and when I return to NYC, I will definitely return to Hurley's

Sunday night after the Tony Awards this was the place to be, it was packed with stars. The whole cast from "La Cage aux Folles"including Kelsey Grammar, Douglas Hodge, Liev Schreiber with Naomi Watts, Kate Blanchett, Chris Noth, Vera Wang and Scarlett Johansson. I never seen so many people in one place

  • Pros: Great all around place especially the outdoor patio

Walked Past 100 Places That Would Have Been Better

by VeryVeryDissapointed at Citysearch

We had done the chain restaurant thing in Times Square the night before and wanted a good only in NYC place and after walking all around Times Square/ Theatre District and passing literally 100 restaurants or more we settled on Hurley's. The waiter was really hard to understand and I'm pretty well travelled. We were given the upstairs menu even though we were seated in the downstairs dining room, where you can certainly hear patrons speaking bar room speak. We have a 9 year old. We were last to be seated at 7 45, only other table was leaving as we came in. Other spots in the neighborhood were packed as you looked through the window, you can't tell at Hurley's until your in the door.

Nothing on Upstairs menu for a kid and when the waiter finally came back and we asked for the other menu, he would not give us one and said you can have, fries, moz sticks, chicken tenders. Wife seemed to be able to understand him. I think he was afraid if we saw the other menu we would both opt for the $10 burger.

I went for the Swordfish with Mango sauce, baked potato and the Lobster Bisque. Wife got Chicken with Champagne Sauce and Mushroom & Bisque, Kid got sticks and Fries.

Back in the beginning as we were going in a smoker said "I always recomend the burgers" he said.

I guess that was really meant as a warning.

Bisque was OK if you were hungry (we were). Service the whole time was very spotty, we were never asked if we wanted another drink. Out came the swordfish. Just aweful. Not even remotely close to hot not even warm. Not sure it would have been good if they actually cooked it. Baked potato was hot enough, some cold spots, but thankfully edible as the fish was not.

Chicken was fair to midland. Ok for cook quality, no chef would put that out.

The mozzarella stick and fries were excellent.

BOTTOM LINE is from our experience Hurleys is probably a nice nieghborhood place for a few beers & a burger or wings with your friends but FINE DINING IT IS NOT.
