Editorial Review for Vudu Lounge – by Julie Mehta

The Scene
You may stop and wonder where you are when you see the red ropes outside Vudu, an ex-Soho lounge that has reemerged in unlikely uptown digs. Inside, the lively bar--which leads to a cozy dance floor flanked by couches--relies on little more than an abundance of red lighting and a couple of forbidding-looking masks for ambience, but the hardworking bar staff and solid pop, hip-hop and reggae grooves go the distance.

The Draw
The upbeat, stylish crowd is principally young urban professional, though more diverse than the cookie-cutter clientele of most bars in the vicinity. You won't find any beers on tap, but plenty of bottled brews and top-shelf liquors at typical club prices. With its downtown facade, Vudu brings a taste of pretension, but at least it offers Upper East Siders who want to stay local an alternative to the neighborhood's pubs and frat-boy hangouts.

My friends and I went there on a Thursday, and it was Latin Night... and we are going back because it was such a great time. There was a 10 piece band singing and playing the music. It was like being on vacation. Can't wait to go back

This is one of the most violent places in N.Y.C. People are constantly getting into fights. One night there was a serious fight on the street where people were using weapons, i.e., golf club and a bat to attack others. My advice, is to STAY AWAY from this establishment as it's not worth the chance of getting hurt.

Pros: None

Cons: Violent
