Editorial Review for JaK's Grill – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
The aroma of grilled meat from the open kitchen tantalizes the waiting crowd that spills onto the sidewalk. Once inside, low lighting illuminates the mahogany furnishings, creating an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. The menu has a straightforward selection of steaks, pork, chicken and fish--unlike most steak joints in town, the salad, veggies and potato are included in the price of each dinner. Appetizers are nonexistent; the butter-kissed Delmonico or porterhouse are indulgent entrees.

I took my boyfriend to Jak's Grill for his birthday because we had both been wanting to try it. Overall the experience was very nice. The hostess was very accomodating - moving us to another booth at our request when we were first seated. Our server was gracious as well - she explained the differences in the cuts of steak and was quick to ask us if we'd like more drinks when they were getting low. The bread did taste stale, which was a shame but not a huge deal. My boyfriend loved his steak, the chef prepared it to a perfect medium rare. My Salmon entree, on the other hand, which I asked to be prepared Medium Rare as well, came out Well done. It had close to no moistness and very little flavor - which is what happens when you overcook fish. The only other thing that was not enjoyable was the vegetable - some huge pieces of broccoli and carrot with little to no flavor - quite unappetizing. On a good note, we both loved the spinach salads and our wine was teriffic as well.

I don't know why they flock to this place. The food is atrocious, the staff is rude and not very helpful. I made the mistake of trying a pork chop there and I'd have to say that was a big mistake. I should have never taken those precious 2 bites into it, as I didn't realize until I swallowed the 2nd bite that it was raw in the center. I sent it back and they tried to cook it, only to bring back a raw pork chop again, then had the nerve to force me to pay for the 2 bites of raw pork they served me. Now, I'm a fan of raw uncooked meats when they are safe, but not pork. The illness I got from this was pretty legendary. I would warn all to avoid this dump and go somewhere better like Quinns or the Met, or El Gaucho, or Capital Grill, anywhere but this unsanitary place. I'd rather eat at Denny's.
Pros: cheap[
Cons: rude staff, terrible food
