Editorial Review for Blue Ribbon Brooklyn – by Dana Bowen

The Scene
Few Park Slope restaurants welcome such a wonderful mix: ladies lunch on long, paper-draped tables under the sprawling dining room's exposed wood beams; 30-something guys lean into the late-night oyster bar, and couples young and old enjoy quiet conversation in the few secluded nooks. Service is smart, casual and accommodating, whether it's your anniversary or your infant's first dinner out.

The Food
The New American menu is just as eclectic as the crowd, and dishes--though not as upscale as their prices might have you think--are solidly prepared. Every appetizer is a hit, from elegant, lightly acidic leek vinaigrette to tangy, meaty pork ribs served with flaming Sterno so you can char your own. Entrees are gigantic: double-breaded fried chicken with sauteed collards and creamy mashed potatoes serves two, and the duck BLT, layered on toasted wheat, is a triple-decker. The mushroom-onion-topped hanger steak with skin-on frites is a worthy signature.

I love this place. The food is amazing and the staff is so attentive and fast. My steak was cooked perfectly and the chocolate bruno was one of the best desserts I ever had. It very relaxing and they don't rush to leave after you finish your meal. My waiter Kevin was very knowledgeable and gave some great suggestions. I will going back soon.

Blue Ribbons dinning experience is more than up to par. I began my dinner with their chicken wings, which were excellent, and seemed to be to be free range. As an entree I had their special "Steak w/ roasted peppers, peppered cheddar, and cornbread, along with their Sangiovese which proved by recommendation to match well. Although the dish was great I had asked for the steak medium and it had seemed to come medium well to well. I personally like that line of pink in the middle of my steak, as I often order medium rare. It's always nice to see how a kitchen puts out a steak. Don't get me wrong though I enjoyed it immensely. Following I indulged in their bread pudding which was ok, a little dry but the ice cream with it brought the dish together for a wonderful desert which I enjoyed with their Grahams 10yr Tawny and a shot of espresso. All in all I think Blue Ribbon is a great restraint with good food, a versatile menu and impeccable service. I'll say it again the service was over the top and as I looked around the restaurant it seemed to me that the rest of the guest were enjoying the experience. I'll have to return to try some of the other dishes in the future! Most definitely!

Pros: Service is outstanding

Cons: Could use a better dessert menu
