Editorial Review for Fiamma – by Erin Behan
The Scene
One of Soho's more pretentious dining rooms still manages to feel relaxed, whether in the soaring first floor, or on the amber-lit second level, which feels like a warm clubhouse. Dishes come with a recited explanation of their ingredients, and service is flawless.
The Food
Celebrated chef Fabio Trabocchi's small, daily changing menu leans Italian but borrows from the European tradition. The flavors range from luxurious, as with the quail egg-topped carpaccio, to elegantly rustic--burrata served with Manni olive oil, described by some as the "world's most expensive." Mains are divided between land and sea: Comfort trumps opulence in pasta dishes such as a seafood risotto, while pork belly (or the chef's famous suckling pig) shows Trabocchi's skill with the animal. In comparison to other dishes' strong flavors, the black cod, served with mussels and octopus, pales. Desserts, too, lose oomph: Marscapone panna cotta needs its coffee gel to sing.
Hits: The creative fare keeps you guessing, and the uncommon drink list adds an extra sparkle.
Misses: If you're used to Soho being for the young and hip, know that this spot draws an older, more refined crowd.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe extensive wine list is listed on the B.R. Guest website, meaning you can pre-select. Regardless, a knowlegeable sommelier is there to steer your choices. The $65 Spanish Naiades Verdejo is a relatively good deal and a nice match for fish and desserts.
What to DrinkThough girly-looking, the tangy Citrus cocktail, with its Campari rose foam, is a fun way to sneak in some molecular gastronomy.
Look GoodThough they won't kick you out if you wear designer jeans (the normal Soho restaurant dress code), know that you'll be in the minority.

I went to Fiamma this past weekend for the first time since the new chef took the helm, and was absolutely blown away by both the food and the service! From the moment the reservationist picked up the phone until the manager wished us a good night, everyone on staff was both professional and friendly. Our server was very knowledgeable on both the food and wines, and was really helpful in assisting us with choosing our 5 course menus (there is a suggested one, but we were free to create our own as well). The chilled tomato and lobster soup, the lasagna, and the cherry wood smoked lamb were the real stand outs that evening. Most of the food we had was very rich, and the portions were fairly large; it took us a good 3 hours to finish. We never felt rushed or crowded, even as the restaurant filled up around us. The manager was by the host stand as we were leaving, and seemed to take a genuine interest in how our evening had gone. All in all I thought the evening was worth every penny!
Pros: warm service, great food
Cons: prix-fixe menu, a la carte only at the bar

Not sure what this last poster is talking about. I live in the neighborhood and dine at the bar at Fiamma approx. every other week and they have never even had Osso Buco on the Menu? The bartender always takes superb care of me and knows his way around the menu and winelist. Either you are confusing them with another place or this is a baseless "smear" piece.
