Editorial Review for J.G. Melon – by Dan McAlvanah
In Short
J.G. Melon is a dusty old neighborhood tavern with green-and-white checkerboard tablecloths, old men who drink beer in the middle of the day and Irish waitresses who address regulars by nicknames like "The Commander." The highlight of the pub-food menu is the burger--juicy, loosely packed and served on a small bun. The menu offers other standards as well: a turkey club sandwich, chicken salad, roast Cornish hen. Bartenders pour Coors Lite and Budweiser.

Ok, I was recommended J.G. Melon by one of my NY buddies, and he said it's "one of the best burgers ever". Yes, it was a pretty good, juicy burger, but $10? And starter salads are also $10? This is a little bit pricey for a small little burger joint that doesn't even have a good beer selection on tap...I say, go just once and see if you are willing to cough up the cash (which is all you can use, as they don't take credit cards). I personally won't be heading back, but also don't necessarily regret going in the first place...so, hence my score of Average...I would rather head to P.J. Clarke's instead (better beer selection, better burger, better prices, better atmosphere).
Pros: Great burger and solid service.
Cons: Pricey and at the end of the day, just not worth it.

After waiting nearly an hour to be seated (much longer than the host had told us) with our watered down drinks, we were squeezed into a corner table. The burgers were good, but the price made me cringe. The poor service and passable food definitely didn't fit the bill.
