In Short – The Hotel Plaza Athenee's gastronomic accompaniment matches its Euro boutique hotel style. Just off the lobby, guests pass through the clubby Bar Seine to enter the refined eggshell-hued dining room. A gold dome and expensive looking chandeliers set the tone for chef Ike Koutrakos' prix fixe dinner menu of New American favorites, which can be supplemented by a $215 Beluga caviar course. Daily afternoon tea adds a touch of class where none is needed--it's everything the Upper East Side aspires to.

Amazingly romantic

by tolyshilman

Amazing location in high-end hotel. We came to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The restaurant was empty as this was a Sunday night and we had a later start time. It was perfectly quiet and the manager sat us at a wonderful table. The food was amazing. The tuna tartar was excellent. The striped sea bass was perfectly soft and delicious. We were full and only ordered tea instead of dessert but the manager and the waitress brought a slice of cheesecake with two candles and "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. A nice touch to go along with an excellent tea service. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice spot for delicious food, good drinks, and delicious desserts.

Not a great choice for Restaurant Week

by lizzyred8

We made Restaurant Week reservations here about 2 months ago - figured we'd get them done early since we were a party of 10. Being that we have been supporting the Restaurant Week initiative for at least 5 years now, we are pretty used to what is received. Upon arrival at Arabelle, I informed the host that we were only going to be a party of 8, and they promptly reset the table to remove the additional 2. 3 of us were then seated and waited for the remainder of our party to arrive. All attendees were present within 15 minutes of the reservation time. About 2 minutes after our party was complete, the waiter arrived to take our order, at which time we requested some additional time to make our decision. He never came back. A waitress arrived about 25 minutes later and she took our order. We also ordered 2 bottles of wine, which were promptly served. The appetizer was fine, the main course less than great (one diner sent her branzino back due to the overwhelming fishy taste, mine had bones in it), and the dessert was less than average. Another 2 bottles of wine were ordered over the course of the meal but the attentiveness of the servers had dwindled significantly. About an hour and a half after our reservation time, we were politely asked to give up our table as it was needed for another party. We asked for our check (which was just under $1000) and while waiting for the change were once again asked to give up the table. I would not go back here, especially on a regularly priced night. Not sure why it was not assumed that a party of 10 people would take at least 2 hours to have a meal.

  • Pros: many wine choices
  • Cons: everything else

this is what it's all about

by lex142

We had an unexpected delay and called to say we couldn't make our reservation on time and were thanked warmly and reassured that they were looking forward to our visit. We were greeted warmly when we arrived. From that point on our every need was anticipated.

The fois gras was perfect as was the lamb. The service was seemingly effortless and very well timed.

The room is large, but comforting.

I've had better dining experiences, but I can usually come up with something to complain about, not here.

No complaints.

  • Pros: excellent staff, food, and environment
  • Cons: none
