Editorial Review for Moe's – by Alleen Barber
The Scene
Brooklyn's Fort Greene continues to flex its hip muscle with Moe's, a vibrant nightspot on relatively quiet Lafayette Avenue. Colored squares of light over the curved bar, nifty vintage furniture sets--including a vibrating chair--and myriad votive candles decorate the bi-level space (formerly a tailor's shop). A young, racially and sexually diverse crowd enjoys the legroom of happy hour, then grows to pack the place till closing time.
The Draw
There's an unavoidable, if mercifully understated, "The Simpsons" theme here, with a portrait of bartender Moe in one of the unisex bathrooms, a stiff pyrotechnic shot called the "Flaming Mo" topping the drink list, and a beer tap labeled "Duff" (attention Miller Brewing Company: It's actually MGD). But happily, the patrons are a lot more appealing than Homer and Barney.

Veronica the manager at moe's is Busted, and has a BAD attitude, maybe it's because she is having a baby by a Bum. And Moses the bouncer on weekends Has DO-DO Breath........ And he seems to be mildly RETARDED.
Pros: OK Drinks
Cons: Ugly staff

I'm psyched for the people who haven't had a problem with the staff at Moe's. I've lived in Fort Greene many years and believe me, want to like this bar since it's one of few in the 'hood. That said, Butch the bartender is rude and at times, downright hostile. I guess it depends if he decides he "likes" you or not. And before people say it's because I'm difficult, having worked as a bartender myself, am never anything but polite and friendly. Likewise, the female bartender/owner is rude and snotty, for no apparent reason. I don't know. It's just puzzling. When you're a paying customer and you're being polite and cordial, that kind of attitude is mind-boggling.
Pros: Liquor
Cons: Rude staff in charge of said liquor
