Editorial Review for Robin des Bois – by Justin Hartung
In Short
A massive chandelier, fireplace and decade-spanning antiques make for a cozy interior while the plant-strewn, festively decorated backyard more than earns its "Sherwood Forest" nickname. Weekend partyers mix with the nabe's locals and artists, who covet the vintage French movie posters lining the walls. All are drawn by the basic bistro fare--including mussels, steak with potatoes gratin and croque monsieur--and international tangents like couscous with meguez and chili-rubbed pork loin.

I took an out of town guest here for dinner last night and we loved our experience at Robin des Bois. Everyone who worked there was friendly and professional. Attentive but not overbearing and they did not rush us at all even though we had one of the coveted patio tables. Speaking of the patio, it is one of the loveliest spots I have had dinner in a long time. We started our dinner with cocktails, my friend had the beet salad and I had the gazpacho. For our main course she had the salmon and I had the goat cheese & tomato sandwich. We also had some wasabi mashed potatoes which were out of this world (and one of the specials that night)! For dessert we shared the warm chocolate cake which was delicious and very rich- you could taste the cocoa. While this place is cash only, you can't beat the prices! Our total bill was less than $65 for very high quality food and service. I will be back again soon and recommend it to everyone.
Pros: Beautiful patio, incredible food
Cons: cash only

I've been going to - and loving - Robin de Bois for years now. This weekend I had a revelation: the food is actually getting better. I found this unusual - most places that have been around for awhile and have a dedicated following become apathetic, and the quality of the food declines. Not here - just the opposite in fact. I had the sea bass special, with mashed potatoes, after starting with the tuna tartare and the wild mushroom salad. It is particularly amazing when you see the size of the kitchen (tiny!). The decor is fun, the wine is great, the food is fantastic, and the prices are reasonable. I'm so excited that the nice weather is here too to be able to sit outside in their beautiful garden.
