  7. But I was amazed to find that the Said plate, Mediterranean appetizers, was really tremendous -- some of the best felafel I've ever had and a very tasty tabouleh, as well.

  1. Great atmosphere--we sat outside--and good service.

  6. We spent over $300 while we were there and for the poor service she took off a wopping $18 (our appetizers - which were very measly servings anyways)!
  7. Service is a little spacey, but it's mostly harmless and the staff was tremendously nice.
  8. Probably one of the best patios for people watchin'; nestled up nicely against the newly renovated Father Demo Square, the defacto center of the Village while WSP is being torn apart.
  9. There was a lovely piano playing and the service was good.

  15. If you are up for a good time with real people and want to be treated as a real person by a business that cares about their customers, I highly recommend this

  1. Poorly prepared food, way overpriced, terrible menu selections.
  2. Very reasonable prices and the food is ok.
  3. am not a big eater, but the portion sizes, especially compared to the prices, as well as the nearly inedible preparation mean you should go somewhere else.
  4. Food is almost good enough to merit such prices (most entrees are about 15-20ish) -- but it's not stunning.

Great place for music

by Joan and George

We especially enjoy the music and the atmosphere at the Greenwich Village Bistro. Carla, the owner, is always welcoming, mixing around to customers.

We visit NYC several times each year and make sure to stop at the Bistro, Great location! Last weekend we enjoyed "The Bill Murrray Experience" with a fab vocalist. Also "Fellaheen" which bills itself as "Stange Music for Strange Times". One of the lead vocalists really sounds like

Tom Waits.. Enjoy!

  • Pros: No cover charge for music

We Think We are Cool; Let's Overcharge

Poorly prepared food, way overpriced, terrible menu selections. For instance, I ordered the "hummus platter.". It came with three triangles, that is 3/7th!! of one pita, a glob of hummus, fiur olives, and a pile of warm cheese. All this for $10! They also have a "spinach salad.". Know what is on that? Spinach. Yep. That's it. For $8, you get a very small plate of spinach leaves. And the sweet potato fries. Well. A tiny plate of limp shards. I am not a big eater, but the portion sizes, especially compared to the prices, as well as the nearly inedible preparation mean you should go somewhere else.

Welcome to the Village

by GordonGGeneva

A surprisingly local bar/restaurant in the heart of Manhattan's most touristy neighborhood. I'm happy to call the place my local!

Good taps, good tasting, simple menu! A nice selection of wine with GREAT staff and ownership.

Probably one of the best patios for people watchin'; nestled up nicely against the newly renovated Father Demo Square, the defacto center of the Village while WSP is being torn apart.

Enjoy

  • Pros: Local vibe, GREAT patio!
  • Cons: None

Best Local Bar with the Friendliest Staff and Ownership (Awesome Music and Atmosphere)

by kdouglas100

I was hanging out and walking around the Greenwich Village area on a beautiful Sunday and stumbled upon Greenwich Village Bistro. After walking in and sitting at the bar, we were promptly greeted by the bar and our drink order was taken. The staff was so friendly (reminded me of Cheers) as they knew most of the people coming in...meaning, they have regulars. I felt so at home and comfortable.

The patio was hopping but after sitting at the bar and getting to talk to the staff, we decided to stay inside on a beautiful day. We got there around 4 pm and left around 8:15 pm. We had some food (great) and awesome beers. We tried most of their drafts. There was a piano player when we first arrived, who was awesome and then a band came in with two awesome signers and performed some great jazz scores. It was awesome, great experience and a definite keeper.

I read the other reviews and in shock how anyone could say negative things about this establishment. The thing a like the most about the place is that it is cozy...smaller so a big party would be a challenge during busy hours but off time would be great. Our food along with others food came out on time. It was AWESOME. Last but not least, they switched bartenders about 20 minutes after we arrived so we got to talk to an awesome bartender (Brian) for the remainder of our visit. We also got to know Carla (the owner), who is so personable and passionate about her business but mostly about her customers and employees. She has such a big heart. She even shared some food with us and allowed us to sample all of the beers...extraordinary. We really loved her and Brian along with all of the staff including the chef, who we met later when he came in for a drink. This is a family...no doubt.

If you are up for a good time with real people and want to be treated as a real person by a business that cares about their customers, I highly recommend this restaurant/bar.

Love Yah Carla, Brian & team,

Kenneth

  • Pros: Ambience, wonderful service/team members and a rocking awesome owner
