The Scene – The compact Ding Dong Lounge is dark inside, with brick and blood-red walls surrounding a plain-and-simple atmosphere befitting a true punk rock bar. The walls are decorated with posters of vintage flyers advertising punk gigs from days gone by. While a few college kids have started checking out the bar, the clientele tends to be an even mix of thirsty men and women between 25 and 40. – – The Draw – Punk rock from the Stooges to Turbo Negro blasts on the sound system; a DJ mans the turntables almost every night, with live music on a limited schedule. Great dive bar
by WillTell
The Ding Dong Lounge is a great bar.
It is suprisingly cleaner than one might expect for a grungy punk bar.
The music is great, the bartenders are quick, and the dim, candle-lit atmosphere will keep you around for "maybe just one more..."
- Pros: Dive bar
- Cons: Dive bar
Not like it used to be.

Every six months or so I return to Ding Dong thinking it'll be as good as it used to be, but it just gets worse.
Their selection of beers is short and disappointing and they get grumpy if asked to fix something other than a well drink. Last visit, we had to repeatedly coax the chainsmoking bartender inside to pour us drinks before we finally decided to go somewhere else (a patron at the bar was just helping himself). The time before that the barkeep spent about fifteen minutes screwing around with an ipod or something because the music wasn't playing. Bring a flare gun if you want a drink.
I also will never forget their lame attempt to make our large group pay $50 or something ridiculous one New Years Eve to enter their completely empty bar at 2:00 am -- the meaty bouncer wasn't letting anyone in.
It seems like it just serves a few loyal old regulars who are used to the crappy service or are maybe friends of the barbacks.
- Pros: punk rock ambience
- Cons: awful bartending

I loved this bar and whenever I'm in town I make it a point to stop in,although its changed since the last time I've been inseems more like a collage hangout, still good.
But can someone please tell me whatever happened to the good old dirty punk rock and the kickass bartenders?
chet chrissy where did you go!!!
- Pros: most of the time good music
- Cons: young students
Great Bar, insane bouncer will break your nose
by woger723
Oh so tragic. One of the greatest bars in Manhattan yet their bouncer broke some dude's nose last night. He bledd all over me and my friends. Then the guy tried to pick a fight with US! Who would think that a bar of this stature would employ such a meathead? So, so sad.
- Pros: Everything but the bouncer
- Cons: The bouncer
the last cool bar in manhattan

this is the perfect bar. great music, great atmosphere and great bartenders. everything is perfectly balanced. go on a weeknight for a chilled out vibe. it has a great neighborhood vibe while still being completely welcoming to newcomers. weekends are busier with a good mix of locals, the cooler columbia students, and the occasional foreigner from the nearby youth hostel. no pretensions here. no bridge&tunnel dufuses. no trendy hipster phonies. no williamsburg posturing. just the good stuff (and awesome prices).
- Pros: great music, great atmosphere, great drinks
- Cons: not a lot else nearby
