Salmon River

Gotham's greatest seafood with a laid-back atmosphere.

"Unlike Midtown restaurants that are busy only for lunch & pre-theater dinner, Salmon River buzzes from breakfast ?til closing. Midday, it refuels neighborhood office workers, both on-premises and with Bryant Park-bound salads and sandwiches; after work, corporate creatures unwind at the long bar, in the mesh-curtained lounge, and in the quieter, bamboo-accented rear dining area. Then come the theatergoers and couples grabbing dinner before heading home from Grand Central; later yet, coworkers shuffle in, discussing the project that kept them after hours. The seafood-centric menu presents familiar dishes with Manhattan flair courtesy of a Nobu-pedigreed chef, René Nilo Cuzco, who possesses a light touch and a knack for seasonings". NY Magazine

Editorial Review for Salmon River – by Paul Adams

The Scene
The walls of the narrow space are salmon-colored and decorated with blowups of fishing flies. Catering to a clientele of travelers, service is friendly enough and highly competent.

The Food
A pleasant array of fish dishes prepared with creative flair and complemented by well-selected sauces and vegetable sides. Seared yellowfin tuna arrives on a bed of tangy Asian noodles in a soy broth; "crispy skin Atlantic cod" comes with polenta sticks and tapenade. Some dishes are somewhat stunted: A tequila-cured salmon appetizer, though tasty, is served in petite proportions.

after a friend suggested it to me, i decide to give Salmon River a try. I went on a thursday night and the place was pact from the bar down to the main dining room, you think they where giving stuff away. the where two of us and we had a nice corner table, the restaurant was a bit noisy but not to bad, I started with a delicious steamed fish dumplings, and for my main course I choose the cedar planked salmon, which was out of this world and for $21.50 is hard to beat. Wine selection by the glass was nice and the best part is the wine is served in mini pitchers so for $8 you get more than a glass. After the meal i realize why the place was so busy, good and inexpensive food, friendly and professional service, I am going back to Salmon River.

Pros: value, service and ambience

Cons: none

It was the best dining experience I have had in a long time. The price was great and the food was excellent. I was at the restaurant on 2/2/08. The staff was lovely. My wine glass never was empty. I ordered the Cedar Planked Salmon, I thought I was going to jump out of my seat when I tasted it. It melted in my mouth. So as the night goes on, I was too stuffed to order a dessert of my own, so I nibbled on my now "fiancee's" dessert. While doing this the waiter comes over with a tray and says, "I have a special dessert for you". Of course I am trying to convince him to take it back to the kitchen. But he graciously uncovers the platter and staring at me was this beautiful ring. I broke out into hysterics. They did it so well. My fiancee tells me it was the eye contact because neither one of us left the table the entire meal. I was so happy that I am planning on returning real soon. No changes need to be made they are top.
