Editorial Review for Laicale – by Sandra Ramani
The Scene
Opened in 2000, Laicale--pronounced lie-kuh-lay--is the US outpost of stylist Fabrizio Fiumicelli's renowned Italian salon (a third opened in Japan in early 2002). Despite years of runway and celebrity work, the soft-spoken Fiumicelli is refreshingly low-key, and his staff and salon echo that vibe. Stylists are encouraged to celebrate their individuality, with the result more friendly and eclectic than intimidatingly "hip." Clients range from locals of all ages and up-and-coming artists to famous folk looking to be left alone.
The Services
From edgy rocker dos to sophisticated, uptown hair, these stylists are comfortable creating it all; it's not unusual for colorists to go from subtle honey highlights on one client to blue tips on the next. An extensive house product line offers quality all-natural treatments and styling aids.

Not kidding people. I have followed this diva of design from San Francisco, where I fortunately met Kristina at a walk-in appointment in the Haight. After traveling through Asia and having my hair butchered by some sweet stylist who was completely overwhelmed by my unruly jew-fro, Kristina didn't even flinch at the job at hand. She completely transformed my mangy locks into the most adorable hair cut, that grew out nicely to boot! Since then I have been a complete convert, and will go nowhere else. I moved to NY last year, and still would only schedule a cut when I came home to San Francisco for the holidays. I was overjoyed when I found that she'd come to her senses and moved out here, and I feel much better that she's close by in SoHo, in case I have a stylistic emergency. She is friendly and unpretentious, she'll listen to your ideas and is never lacking in ingenuity if you need advice.

I made an appointment with Ryan based on a recommendation by a friend. I went in for a cut and color and I could not have been happier with the results. I wanted my hair darker, but not as dark as my natural color, and I also wanted some layers without taking off too much of the length. Ryan made sure that my hair was absolutely what I had asked for. I'm definitely planning on going back in the future!
