Message from Suba

Perhaps the most romantic dining room in New York.

  • Acclaimed Spanish Cuisine
  • Spectacular Design
  • Wine Spectator Award

"There's a clear dedication to quality at Suba- the best of the food here is distinctive & exciting." NY Times review, Aug. 8, 2007

Recently renovated by architects Meyer Davis, Suba is one New York's most spectacular restaurants, and features the contemporary Spanish cuisine of Executive Chef Seamus Mullen.(also of Boqueria) The menu features a variety of Spanish tapas & small plates such as "Croquetas" & "Calamar a la Plancha" as well as classics such as "Paella Valenciana" and other rice dishes.

FLAMENCO SUNDAYS AT SUBA Every Sunday, Suba presents some of NYC's most accomplished Flamenco artists. While watching the artists, our guests will have the opportunity to sample Suba's acclaimed Sangria, Spanish wine selection, tapas or dishes from Suba's full dinner menu. There is no cover for the show, but a $30 food min. per person does apply.

Editorial Review for Suba – by Kathleen Squires

The Scene
"One defines oneself by reinvention," the punk poet Henry Rollins once said, a tenet that the owners of this oft-evolving Spanish spot must hold true. After several chef changes, the interior has undergone a facelift too. A tall blond-wood communal table and taupe banquettes now make the upstairs lounge more comfortable, and while water still streams around the perimeter of the glamorous grotto room, cream-colored walls brighten it up.

The Food
Seamus Mullen, of sister spot Boqueria, introduces a modern Barcelona-based menu. Small plates come on strong: juicy lamb meatballs accompanied by refreshing salsa verde; almond-crusted soft shell crabs surrounded by succulent heirloom tomatoes; and crispy potato croquettes touched with Spanish sausage and a frisky red pepper aioli. The Cremosa--a risotto with peas, mint, Manchego and pork belly bits--is the superior share dish, while the must-have dessert is bunuelos, pastry puffs filled with chocolate and served with horchata ice cream.

Prix Fixe Menus

Feast on the Surtido, the chef's selection for the table, for $45 per person.

What to Drink

The 250-bottle wine list focuses on Spain while signature cocktails include six takes on sangria and a flaming mojito made with absinthe, whose $25 price tag is justified by its colossal potency.

I had a great time celebrating my birthday with my friends at Suba on a Saturday night. I was somewhat hesitant from the reviews I read about Suba accomodating large groups, but I must say, I was truly amazed by the quality of service and attention given to our group of 16. The atmosphere was perfect. Beautiful space. We ordered the prefix menu ($49.99) and the food was DeLicious!...everything from the tapas, to the rice dishes to the desserts and it was more than enough food. Didn't feel rushed.Thank you for a great evening!

Pros: Ambiance, Service, good food.

While this restaurant has mostly been known for its design, which is amazing and rivals anything downtown, the food and service are every bit as good. Was there for a business dinner last week with a mixed European group and everyone loved it. Rice dishes are particularly good, and the wine selection is worth the trip alone. Definitely not a tapas bar, and if you want to guzzle Sangria, there are better options. If you want to taste what Spanish cuisine can be though, there are few better options out there. Go during the week to avoid the B&T crowds invading the LES on weekends.

Pros: Great Spanish Food & Wine List

Cons: LES location, Weekend crowds
