After-work martini swilling was the norm at this Chelsea lounge, which is now closed..
In Short
The folks at Kanvas have followed the lounge formula to the letter, with two floors of comfy banquettes, low, well-designed lighting and a kitchen serving bar noshes like quesadillas. New work from the art-rich West Chelsea neighborhood rotates through the space every three weeks. The local mix of boheme and bank is obvious in the after-work crowd as artists mingle with suits.
closed???.
I've been going to Kanvas for a few years now and its always a good time ... I organized about 10 friends and headed down on July 3rd and it was closed. Brown paper on the windows with a permit for electrical/plumbing work in the window ...
not sure if its permanent or temporary but thought I should post. we ended up going to their other location, Latitude since I wasn't familiar with the area.
Great Happy Hour. Really great for Happy Hour with friends after work. Delicious appetizers, great service and even free samples/drinks when there are promoters in the bar! The space is nice and outdoor tables are a plus. The music is good and the bar draws a pretty decent crowd. Come with good friends/coworkers and you'll have a blast!
Great Martinis. Went to Kanvas for my 29th birthday yesterday with a few friends after work. When we got there Happy hour was still going on. I must've had every Martini on the list. I recommended the Gumi bear Martini. YUMMY. The waitress was very attentive even though it was pretty busy. I never once had to ask her to come over to get me another drink. The food was great. But not as good as the drinks. The only thing negative i had to say would have to be the music. They didn't play anything worth singing along to, maybe I'm to young to know the songs that they were playing. My brother who is much older them me loved the music. I ask the DJ if he can play something for me, maybe one song of Hip-Hop or a Pop Song.. he wind up playing Missy Elliot. Okay!!! Ohh and one more thing the drinks they give you are rather tiny during happy hour. After Happy hour is over the glasses get much bigger. Other then that I had a great time there with my friends. You can kinda tell when happy hour is over, because the place cleared out quickly, but around 10 PM more people showed up.. So to sum it up here, This place is cool for a quick drink and a bit. Mos def a place where you just wanna hang out with the girls or fellas. First place I've went to in a while where i didnt feel overdressed or underdressed.
LOVE THIS PLACE. Kanvas is great any day of the week because of their great happy hour specials and they also have an out door cafe perfect for the great weather that has finally arrived, but I love it on the weekends! They have a great DJ on Saturday night and they are one of the few places left in the city that don't charge a cover! I recomend this place to anyone looking for a hassel free fun weekend!
Cool place. Affordable drink, nice (and kind of cute) bouncers great ambiance. My only one complaint it's a bit crowd and small place. My friends enjoyed the place. Very classy.
Great drinks, crowd and service!!. My friends and I decided to give Kanvas a try after hearing about it from one of our friends. We ordered drinks and food and all were very good!! The service was great, our waitress Emily was very nice and attentive and got us drinks quickly! The crowed was great, music was great, it was an awesome night. We had a great experience here and will definitely be back.
Midnight Madness. Every Thursday Kanvas has Midnight Madness and its great. Where else can you get an apple martini for $5 at 1am. Kanvas has brought a great bar scene back to NYC! See you next Thursday!
Great Service. My friends and I love Kanvas not only because of the DJ's, great drinks & food, but also the service. We always get such a warm welcome when we are there and the staff is so friendly. From the bartenders to the servers they are all great! We cant say enough great things about this place!
