Editorial Review for Pigalle – by Maria Zukin
The Scene
Like its big sister, L'Express, the style is classically Parisian, with antique theater posters, woven cafe chairs and tin ceilings. With snazzy entrances from the street and the Days Inn lobby next door, it attracts tourists and roving New Yorkers alike; both theatergoers and an after-club crowd gravitate to its all-night kitchen.
The Food
Brasserie favorites are prepared by the book: Onion soup gratinee bubbles with a thick layer of Gruyere cheese, and grilled shell steak is served medium-rare, with a side of crisp shoestring potatoes. More inventive entrees, such as the salmon tournedos rolled with scallion slices, are beautifully assembled, but lack seasoning. For a snack, try the warm goat cheese Provencale served with tomato on a lightly sweetened honey crouton, or go for the molten chocolate cake.

My girlfriend and I had breakfast there after we got ready for the day at the hotel. There was alot of hype surrounding this place. The venue itself was ok. The food was like any other breakfast joint. On the breakfast menu, it says eggs and "fries" when it fact its just cubs of potatoes cooked in onions. Not the best thing to eat in the morning. I ordered sausage and I got two different kinds and shapes. Kinda weird. Our server was awesome though. Other then that, not going back there.

This is right next to a hotel in Times Sq. so it's a total tourist trap. It's really expensive, the portions are tiny, and it's not that good! Go to 9th Ave. for better food.
