What People Are Saying About Les Halles

Part bistro, part brasserie, the cheerful Les Halles Downtown is ideal for anyone who finds pleasure in beef, pork, potatoes or a good glass of Gigondas. Patrons chat in soupy French at the weathered room-length bar, while groups dine at butcher paper-covered tables set with thick-handled steak knives. Servers are friendly but rushed. Results are mixed for the outpost of its Park Avenue South parent. The safest bets are the French classics.
Love It

I eat here often and have honestly NEVER been disappointed. The staff is exceptional and the food is kick-ass. The prices aren't too bad and the portions are really good.
Everyone should make this a stop
- Pros: Great food, great service
- Cons: Can get crowded
Solid French food

Went here for a nice weeknight dinner. Basic French food, but done well. The escargot was all butter...so it tasted GREAT. The steak tartare was so-so but the mussels were solid. Wine was good, too. All in all, not a destination place, but great for a nice meal out when I don't feel like hopping the subway or a cab.
always a good choice

Les Halles offers good food and polite, efficient service. I always enjoy my time there. The mussels and fries, coupled with a bottle of white wine, are perfect to share. If you feel like something more hearty (it is a steakhouse, after all), go with one of the filets. The steak au poivre is my favorite, and very good for the cost. They have some fun cocktails, too - the Gini has made me like gin again! If you are having steak, enjoy a bottle of red before having an after dinner drink.
- Pros: dark and romantic decor, lovely dishes, good wines served well
- Cons: in a strange part of town
