What People Are Saying About Les Halles

Part bistro, part brasserie, the cheerful Les Halles Downtown is ideal for anyone who finds pleasure in beef, pork, potatoes or a good glass of Gigondas. Patrons chat in soupy French at the weathered room-length bar, while groups dine at butcher paper-covered tables set with thick-handled steak knives. Servers are friendly but rushed. Results are mixed for the outpost of its Park Avenue South parent. The safest bets are the French classics.

Deliciousness with excellent service
by tasteofasia
I have been to Les Halles several times and have never had anything less than a superb experience. I feel compelled to finally write a review of it following my evening last night. I was there with a party of 10 people, 4 of whom were between the ages of 3 and 7. That is never easy for any establishment to deal with, especially on a Saturday night. The staff members were truly amazing---so friendly and accommodating and patient. The food at Les Halles is always great, so it is without question that we cleared our plates, but our server and other servers/runners who took care of us really made the night that much better. Oh, and I should also mention that they accommodated a last minute reservation also, which is somewhat rare. I would highly recommend this place to anyone---native NYers and tourists. It's a sure thing.

ran into this place by accident on a recent trip to NYC. was strolling around feeling a bit saddened by our recent visit to Ground Zero and boom, there it was, Anthony Bourdains old place. well to be honest i didnt realize there are two Les Halles and i would guess he worked at the other one. well this one was more hidden but super cozy. we stopped in for a few drinks around 4 and chatted it up with bartender who had just come back from SF. it was too early for dinner so we made a reservation and took the subway back uptown to get cleaned up.
well we were not disapointed at all. the service was great the food was awsome and i dont know if its because we are from SF and used to SF prices but this place was very cheap in our opinion.
i got the pork extravaganza (forgot the name) and it was outstanding.

I eat here often and have honestly NEVER been disappointed. The staff is exceptional and the food is kick-ass. The prices aren't too bad and the portions are really good.
Everyone should make this a stop
- Pros: Great food, great service
- Cons: Can get crowded
Solid French food
by leanna81
Went here for a nice weeknight dinner. Basic French food, but done well. The escargot was all butter...so it tasted GREAT. The steak tartare was so-so but the mussels were solid. Wine was good, too. All in all, not a destination place, but great for a nice meal out when I don't feel like hopping the subway or a cab.
always a good choice

Les Halles offers good food and polite, efficient service. I always enjoy my time there. The mussels and fries, coupled with a bottle of white wine, are perfect to share. If you feel like something more hearty (it is a steakhouse, after all), go with one of the filets. The steak au poivre is my favorite, and very good for the cost. They have some fun cocktails, too - the Gini has made me like gin again! If you are having steak, enjoy a bottle of red before having an after dinner drink.
- Pros: dark and romantic decor, lovely dishes, good wines served well
- Cons: in a strange part of town
