Swimsuits: Bra Sized - Ugh! – From anticipatory expectation to total disappointment within 7 days!
I was delighted to learn that Bra Smyth's product line included bra sized swimwear. Prior to online ordering, I telephoned Customer Service to inquire about the product quality and (true) sizing, and received an informed assessment of the product and proceeded to order a ($142.00) Curacao Tankini swim suit.
The construction of a 36F/G bra sized swimsuit was poor: 1) bra size was not accurate and did not have the advertised support structure of a bra; 2) the fabric was thin, flimsy and lightweight, clearly not the woven density required for a swimsuit to fit a woman.
I purchased a product from a known and respected retailer expecting to receive a product reflective of their branding. Instead I received a product that could have been sold by a big box discount store (at no more than $29.99).
I relied on the Bra Smyth brand. Big mistake!! In this swimsuit instance, I can't believe that the company had any input on the product or sign-off on quality control. I stated my dissatisfaction and complaint to Customer Service, requested a shipping fee credit (at least one way) - the company neither honored order fulfillment or cared about customer opinion. Polite, but no satisfaction!
Buy Online! – Had a *terrible* experience at Brasmyth on Madison yesterday trying to shop for a sports bra.
Saleswoman pretended to mishear my bra size - several times - then insisted (while poking at my breast) that I was in fact the size she was claiming to have misheard (a size far too small for me - I have extensive experience with bra fittings, particularly at the UK's wonderful Bravissimo chain). Once I tried it on in this size, she pretended it looked great on me, despite obvious over-spill since it was - surprise surprise - too small. When I pointed out the over-spill she told me "that 's you, that's not the bra". As I told her, this has never been my experience with any of my other bras, including sports bras, which actually fit.
After many attempts on my part to get her to bring me a bigger cup size, it finally emerged that this is the only sports bra they stock and this was the largest cup size they had. I really feel she was just trying to make a sale, despite it being entirely the wrong size and support level for me. This is a deplorable level of service.
On top of this, I had to put up with the fact that my fitting room for some bizarre reason contained the door down to the stock room, so women kept popping in and out to get into the stock room, repeatedly opening and closing the cubicle door into the main store while I was only partially-clothed. At a store devoted to lingerie, you'd think privacy would be a given in fitting rooms. I won't be going back again.
Every wall of this tiny boutique is packed with the best in bras and other underpinnings. – The Scene
Well-financed devotees of this uptown institution ask the lovely and informed staff for assistance in finding the best-fitting, most beautiful lingerie in town. Don't let the somewhat overcrowded display fool you--anything you need, for everyday, or for your wedding day, is here.
Fashion necessities like Cosabella thongs and Hanro camisoles are all here, plus loads of French and Italian brands like Le Mystere, Lejabey, Nina Ricci and Millesia. Bra Smythe has hard-to-find bras by Edith Lance, bedroom slippers by Amy Jo Gladstone, sleepwear from lacy and short to classic, men's style pjs, plus robes, corsets, garters and anything else you can wear under there. The store features on-site alterations on anything to ensure a perfect fit.
Bra Gang – If you enjoy being attacked by gaggles of seamstresses and salesclerks, then go to Bra Smythe. I bought my bridal bustier there (which by the way is retailed at 15% *less* at department stores) and was coerced into buying a pair of $80 underwear which I was told one week later was on 20% discount - but oops - sorry, we will not give you a price adjustment, we will only taunt you with the fact that you're getting ripped off. By the way, they justify their inflated prices by claiming to do fittings, when in fact, they do standard darts without measuring you, unless you complain. Should one really have to work so hard to buy undergarments?
Amazing – I've received their catalog for years and assumed it would be a large store but when I finally found it I was surprised to find it a very small space. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was PACKED with a fabulous selection of beautiful and hard to find sizes. Staff scooped me up even though I was reluctant and found me the most fabulous bras ever. They were amazingly intuitive and were no-nonsense, helping me select several items I could find nowhere else. They fitted and shipped the balance of my order. Will be a must-shop on every NY trip from now on!
Luxurious Bras and Panties – A great place to find a bra that REALLY fits well, especially if you are patient with the spacey sales-clerks.
The prices are high (but consider the location) and service needs help, but the merchandise is really , really nice and much less pricey than La Perla.
