Editorial Review for Baker Tribeca – by Rebecca Braverman

The Scene
Venerable home brand Baker Furniture opened its first New York store in this former grain warehouse, filling 12,000 square feet with tasteful furnishings. Don't expect to walk into a giant open space, though: In the service of intimacy, scaled "rooms" have been created to show off groupings of furniture. Industrial materials inspired the metal stairs and pendant lamps set against a subtle backdrop of oyster-hued walls. It's like a Restoration Hardware store, gone way upscale.

The Goods
The Baker brand encompasses more than twenty collections, so there's something here for everyone, provided your pockets are deep enough. The popular Milling Road line is here, with its stylish updates of traditional designs, as is McGuire Furniture, full of stately wicker and teak shapes. Our favorite collection is Barbara Barry's, the L.A. designer whose mahogany furniture has sensuous outlines and an art-deco vibe.

The salespeople were friendly and fairly helpful when purchasing the furniture pieces, but were quite rude and condescending once the purchase was made and when we had questions about delivery, etc. Terrible. Will not shop there again.

On the advice of the "Insider Tip" listed for this store, I called to ask one or two general questions I had about some Baker furniture pieces I inherited. The salesclerk I spoke with had very limited knowledge of Baker furniture, and cut me off in mid sentence to say "So what exactly do you want from me?" I'm trying to figure that out". Horrible.
