Editorial Review for W New York Times Square – by Kara Zuaro
The Scene
Enter through a glass-encased waterfall, and feel the chaos of the city drip away, as the elevator rises to the seventh-floor lobby. In the early evening, the bar is bustling with martini-sipping patrons in designer suits, and immense paper lanterns shed cinematic lighting on the scene. The svelte, black-clad concierge looks as though he's manning the entrance of a private party--a room reservation puts you on the guest list.
The Details
The hotel's restaurant and bar draw so many local patrons and visitors that you won't have to leave the building to get lost in the crowd. After sampling the raw bar at the sophisticated Blue Fin and stopping for drinks in the futuristic setting of the Whiskey, the comfortably sized, stylishly minimalist rooms provide a chic retreat. Pillow-top mattresses, Bliss bath products and a CD-DVD library in each room pamper guests.

Everything about this hotel is terrible. It has the same furniture it had years ago, their 'water room entrance', or whatever it's called has been turned off more then half of the times i've been there which is at least 15, the people at the front desk are not as helpful as they think they are, management is rude and unapproachable and thats only when you can actually find a manager to speak to, no sauna or steam room, they closed down the spa, its so dark you can't even see the numbers on the elevator, the guest rooms are about as big as an average baby nursery, which would be great if I was 21 inches tall and 9 pounds...but I'm not. I've stayed here many times, usually on business but I am done. This hotel offers no amenities at all. They used to be great, they used to have fantastic customer service, it was a trendy, fun, new environment, filled with cool, down to earth staff members, their were fabulous spa treatments for myself and my associates until they apparently closed the spa and tell me they're not opening a new one, the dynamic is all off. maybe it's poor managemnet, I don't know. But, what I do know, is, I'm never staying here again and I would suggest you go somewhere else to.

What junk!!! I called to book a spa appointement at the away spa in the W Hotel, Times Square for my stay next week and they tell me it closed down. How do you close down the spa in the hotel? I'm so upset, as I frequent this spa and have a great relationship with my massage therapist and skin care person. I asked the rude front desk person why it closed and they said "to expand the gym". I've stayed at this hotel many times...no one works out in that gym, I'm usually the only one their when I'm working out. I asked if I could get an in-room massage with my regular masseuse and they told me No, because all the away spa people were let go. Like I want some random weirdo whos experience and expertise is unknown coming into my hotel room and overcharging me?!? The spa was the only good thing this hotel offered and was the only reason I stayed in the hotel. Without it, it's just a cruddy hotel with old wanna-be trendy decor and sub-par service. I immediately cancelled my reservation and booked a room at the Westin Times Square instead. I refuse to spend all that money to be treated like garbage and not even get what I want. Now, the W in times square offers NO pool, NO sauna, NO steam room and now NO spa. there staff is rude, the furniture is old, the sheets are usually dirty with holes in them, they charge you an extra $20 for internet service and $25 for a hamburger with a stale bun...what's the point of staying here?? DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this place, go somewhere that will give you a more memorable experience. Shame on you W Hotel, I expected more from you!!!
