Editorial Review for The Doughnut Plant – by Kevin McDonnell
The Scene
Owner Mark Israel began making doughnuts in his apartment, delivering them by bicycle to small downtown cafes. These days, his base of operations is on Grand Street, and his clients include Zabar's, Citarella and Dean & DeLuca. There's a small retail store at the front of the bakery, but doughnuts this good don't last all day; so arrive early, or it's pickles and bialys for you.
The Food
The doughnuts, when fresh, are meltingly soft, yeasty, fist-sized creations glazed in an array of flavors including pineapple, chocolate, mango and strawberry. The glazes take advantage of top-notch seasonal ingredients: fresh raspberries, Valrhona chocolate and so forth. These doughnuts should never be dunked in a cup of coffee: They are to Krispy Kreme as porterhouse is to White Castle.

Haven't really tried the donuts. Probably won't. I think this guy was the worst I've ever seen on Bobby Flay's show. He had such a bad attitude. Doesn't he realize that Bobby wouldn't have picked him if he didn't think he was already the best? This is free press. Take advantage of it. OMG!!!! He blew it. His little sissy attitude lost him a lot of business, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Oh, and by the way....word of mouth advertisement goes a long way.
