Editorial Review for Rumor Salon – by Sandra Ramani
The Scene
The brainchild of stylist Su Kim and colorist Rosemarie Allouche, who both trained at Vidal Sassoon and developed a following at Aerea, Rumor expertly blends a low-key, neighborhood vibe with top-notch professional services. The design is pretty cool, too; mother-of-pearl box-frame mirrors, subtly shimmering walls, perfect lighting and shoji-screen partitions complement a bright, minimalist space.
The Services
Rumor's stylists are brilliant at interpreting current trends (or a client's secret hair dreams) into flattering, wearable styles with a modern edge. They'll also patiently offer tips on styling hair at home, though most of their cuts emphasize simplicity and boast an easy, no-fuss hipness. Talented colorists work closely with cutters to ensure a unified vision, and each color service comes with two conditioning treatments. Color glosses, low lights, organic mud scalp treatment and the famous Japanese straight-perm are also available.
Editorial content is independent of paid advertisers. Any expenses are paid for by Citysearch.
Insider Tips
Know Before You GoRumor carries hand-picked items from MOP and Japanese lines Crede and Puela; color services use Wella, Schwazkopf and Rainbow.

I have been getting hair cuts from Cristiano for 4 years, never been disappointed. Cristiano treated each hair cut as scapturing art. He took his time making sure the entire hair cut is perfect. His hair cuts always look stylish and nature. His hair cuts are also practical, very easy to maintain at home, I don't need to use any hair products to hold the shape. I always get great compliments for my hair cuts at work & sometimes on the streets. Cristiano's creativities seem unlimited, whenever I feel like to have a make over, I just need to tell him, he always came up with something amazing.
Pros: great value on the hair cuts
Cons: Ambience

Steven is a great professional. Fast and quality work. Very nice guy. The salon has reasonable prices for Manhattan. I paid $125 plus tip for half head highlights and lowlights together. Blowdry is free with any service. I tried many colorists and he is one of the best. Very recommended.
Pros: Haircut is expensive
Cons: Great color service, reasonable prices
