What People Are Saying About Cipriani Dolci

The Scene – More of a high-end eat-and-run scene than a dining destination, Cipriani Dolci draws a well-heeled clientele that doesn't mind the restaurant's exorbitant prices. A glass-enclosed train track runs through the floor of the bar area--the only funky touch to an otherwise staid setting of marble and dark wood furniture. Grand Central Terminal's architectural splendor looms overhead. – – The Food – Straightforward Northern Italian fare rules the menu, with a few traditional American standards such as club sandwiches and hamburgers. Some dishes, like the silky…

Cipriani Docli was not good, even for a train station cafe. We came here for lunch. We were asked to wait for a table, and then forgotten about. We had to come back and insist that we were seated. The service was completely inadequate. I asked for water with no ice, they put ice in it. The tea was brought to the wrong person. The waitress decided that we wanted to share the entrees, when we did not. There were many other small infractions, which amounted to an annoyance. The staff was downright incompetent. As far as food goes, the tuna tartare was quite good. The consistency was good and the taste was fresh and subtle. The bread and dip were good. The veal chop was not good at all, and the salad it came with looked like it was prepared by a three year old. The prices are higher than at most of the top restaurants in NY. There is no decor to speak of. The noise level is quite high - oddly enough higher than at Metrazur across the station. If you insist on eating in grand central, eat at Metrazur - it's also not good, but better and cheaper than Cipriani Dolci.
Excellent Service

I'm surprised by the negative reviews of this venue. I held a corporate cocktail party at this venue last night and we had excellent service. Cipriani did a fantastic job of accommodating a 40 person group on 2 hours notice. The food was great as well.
The manager, Fabio and waitstaff couldn't have been more attentive if they tried.
Terrible service, nonexistant portions, exorbant prices, and inadequate amenities

I went to have dinner here with my fiance several days ago, and even before we entered, we encountered their now-familiar lack of service - there was no hostess present, and we had to seat ourselves. Furthermore, when we finally ordered our food, it took a good 40 minutes before we finally got to eat. In the meantime, we had to subside on the bread - which they did not bring until we actually placed our orders.
When the food arrived, the excitement at our culinary salvation turned into dread - the portions were TINY! The veal was leathery and tasteless, and the medium filet mignon was charred black.
If the food was not bad enough, the service tops it off with cherries on top - our waitress only came to our table once, in the middle of our meal, and it took us another half hour or so to actually get someone's attention and receive our check.
When my fiance had to use the restroom, she found that toilet paper was missing in all stalls. Not good! In the meantime, the Maitre'd was strolling through this trainwreck of a restaurant, and hardly paid attention to any of the tables, and when asked where the ladies room was, completely misdirected her.
I expected a lot more from the Harry Cipriani name - from the tasteless, overpriced food in tiny portions, and slow service, to the generally unprofessional environment - the lack of toilet paper, the rickety plastic tables and paper tablecloths, etc.
Definitely not going to take a chance on Cipriani again.
- Pros: Great view of Grand Central
- Cons: Food, service, amenities
Worst Service Ever, Medicore Food, Not Worth Price
by helenleesf
The service is horrific. The staff, including the manager (except the hostess) were rude, unfriendly and grumpy. The food arrived not hot. It was more the attitude and the unpleasantness of the staff. Finally, we ordered tea which was bought out in a teapot w/o a lid. We asked that they not charge us for the tea since we wanted hot tea and not cold tea. When our bill came they charged us and the manager retorted back by saying well did you drink it and how much of it did you drink. He was pretty darn rude. The staff must follow the manager's suit and be misearable working there or else why would they be so unfriendly and in the restaurant business. Do not dine here!
Great spot

We just had coffe and dessert, which were nice. We enjoyed the view of the Grand Central from above along with the atmosphere. The service was also nice. We'd definitely go back as well as recommend to friends.
