The Scene
Named for Prohibition's notoriously elusive rum-running ship, this quiet, hidden refuge within Murray Hill's Park South Hotel still slips under the radar. A collection of stormy sea paintings and two mermaid figureheads hoisting lights above the bar set a lulled maritime mood. Mature businessmen and dates converse over hushed, white-clothed tables, and the library-like calm of the fireplace lounge lures solace-seekers toting books. Live jazz brings bustle to the bar on weekends.
The Food
The upscale seafood menu draws on Asian influences, with European hints and American helpings. To start, lightly brothed chowder conceals sunken chunks of clam, while blue cheese and pecans burst from sweet frissee and pear salad. Surf-and-turf encompasses the menu's star entrees: deliciously charred sesame-crusted tuna with ginger ponzu gently juxtaposes espresso-rubbed filet mignon. Tri-colored vegetable pasta sits in a less-inspired garlic sauce. But servers, attentive if slightly unpolished, gladly direct inquisitors to menu strengths--like rum-flambeed dessert bananas foster--and allow leisurely enjoyment.

I used to go to the Black Duck all the time when at my former company as it was literally around the corner. Met up with some old co-workers last night at the duck and now i remember why we always go there for after work. Great drinks and friendly staff. Plus they have that sweet loungy couch area in the front for us to hang out. This is a good spot to go in Flatiron for sure. Cannot comment on the food since i have never eaten here...but they do give out little chocolates!!

I am a research geek.. My hubby & I wanted something special, but yet different & romantic for our 10 year anniversary. I read the reviews previously posted--although everyone is intitled to their opinion, my hubby & I absolutely loved the place! Hospitality was outstanding, the food was absolutely delicious & the atmosphere was simply cozy & everything that we could have ever hoped for! I was very suprised by our cozy booth with rose petals scattered about & the jazz band playing in the distance. The service was outstanding & Richard, was very accomidating to our needs and wants. Being from Texas, that says a lot! The Black Duck is definately a best kept secret that I am telling ALL my friends about! I can't wait to return! A BIG Texas thank you for a very memoriable anniversary!

My boyfriend and I made a reservation for Valentines Day at the Black duck and were extremely disappointed. From the $85 per person prefix menu, the appetizers, yellowtail, clams, & scallops were pretty good. However the entrees were awful. The steak was cooked well, while we ordered it medium rare. The lobster was so overcooked it tasted like a sponge. We were already an hour and a 1/2 into dinner and didn't want to send the food back. I haven't seen the regular menu, but will not go back to try it.
