Water Street Restaurant & Lounge

A Gathering Place for Eats and Fun

  • Landmark location & great food
  • Underwater lounge downstairs
  • Catering and private parties

A Valentines day special 4 course meal. A bottle of wine, Jacques Torres Chocolate and a romoantic piano music played. We are Situated on the cobblestone streets of Dumbo's historic waterfront in the shadows of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, Water Street Restaurant & Lounge was built on the bottom two floors of a landmark warehouse and iron foundry. The owner and operators of Water Street transformed over 7,000 square feet of dramatic raw space that dates back to 1887, into an amazing venue that straddles the line between lounge, restaurant, catering and party space. Water Street Restaurant & Lounge offers the finest quality continental American cuisine and the most exciting party atmosphere Brooklyn. There's always something happening at Water Street. Come have a drink, have dinner, have a party or chat at the bar you won't be disappointed.

Editorial Review for Water Street Restaurant & Lounge – by Rebecca Braverman

The Scene
DUMBO still mystifies: Its cobblestone streets are deserted once the sun goes down, yet luxury buildings continue to pop up, then fill up with posh residents. 66 Water Street, tucked away just a block from the East River, looks to be the neighborhood's local tavern, with a long wooden bar that could date back to the turn of the century--or could be brand new. Overlook the too-bright lighting and the tepid music in this vast, brick-walled space and focus instead on the choice ironwork on the stairway railings: It recalls the girders of the nearby Brooklyn Bridge.

The Draw
Location, location, location--rarely do the words resonate so. If the 'hood were swimming with nightlife options, Water Street wouldn't be anything special. But if DUMBO residents don't have to stray too far from home, and the selection of beers on tap is passable, then it's a welcome addition to the nabe. And don't fear Brooklyn, out-of-borough travelers: 66 Water Street's business card features a decent map so you'll be able to find your way back.

The wait staff are pretty nice. The drinks are usually great and the service has always been prompt. The meals are not always good. Burgers are great. However, one evening my friend and I ordered the calamari appetizer and steaks for dinner. The steaks were tough and the calamari was chewy and undercooked. We were not charged for the food, but it makes for an awkward situation. It will be a while before we go back.

Pros: never crowded, good draft beer selection

Cons: food not cooked properly

Ok, so me and my boyfriend like to go out once a week for dinner to some nice place.. We enjoy all kinds food, would it be American, Italian, French or Asian Fusion.. So, last Saturday, we decide to chill in Dumbo and try the Water Street Restaurant...WOW, what a mistake.. First, we order appetizers.. I order Fried Calamari...it was extremely chewy.. then I ask the waitress if they can change shrimp in shrimp languini to some other seafood..she tells me no...as the shrimp is already mixed in.. then I order a side order of onion rings which they dont have that day.. I finally ordered crab cakes with french fries.. My G_D..those crab cakes look like beef patties..that's how much they were overcooked..and the fries..you could have broken a tooth while eating them..So I sent the food back which I have never done before and we left. The only good thing, I can say about this place is that they are drinks were not bad.. We had some black cherry drink that was good.. Don't go there.. Food is pre cooked..

Pros: Ok Drinks

Cons: pre cooked food
