The Scene – It is always night in a W hotel, especially this one, with its catchy play list, dim lighting, and staff all dressed in black. Icon feeds the red-eyed denizens of this permanent midnight. Red velvet banquettes make the minimal seem lush in a long, granite-floored dining room, leading to the only point of day--the light-filled patio room. The midtown clientele isn't all immaculately disheveled: Business suits dot the landscape any time of morning, noon and night. – – The Food – Icon sports the usual high-quality hotel breakfast (applewood smoked…

After reading about Icon on Zagat buzz, i had to experience it for myself so I had a dinner there tonight. This place is a gem and wish I had known about Icon before.
The food is full of flavor. It looks as if there is a very creative Chef who understands the flavors and balance and it translates it in every dish he prepares.
Service was good as well and I am excited to come back and try new dishes every time.
Disaster at its finest!

It was the night before Valentines Day, and I was spending two nights at the W hotel, with a friend for her birthday. We decided to have dinner at Icon. We should have known, at first glance, the place was empty. First, they changed the menu, so all you can order are appetizers. Five choices for forty dollars. So we decided to give it a try. The first, was a slice of sushi grade Salmon, with a dollop of ? Zero taste. The second was a piece of sea bass, which was very good. The third was some kind of duck that was so salty it was un-edible. The forth was a piece of sirloin that I requested well done, and was served raw. The food presentation was so un-appealing, all I kept thinking ?this looks like a skid mark? and finally the chocolate souffle was so hard that I asked the waiter ?would you eat this?. Needless to say, the waiter apologized. He picked up the bottle of wine we ordered with the meal, which unfortunately will not influence me to return again.
- Pros: Nice Ambience
- Cons: Terrible Food
ICON, what a jewel

I went to Icon during restaurant week...what a wonderful experience! Each plate was more fabulous than the next. At first I thought that the "small plates" wouldn't be filling. I couldn't have been more wrong. I tried the 6 plate selection and enjoyed every morsel. I have every intention of going back to try everything that I didn't order. This is a MUST go to restaurant!!!!
- Pros: The food tastes as good as it looks
- Cons: None
