Jalino's Pizza

Proudly serving and delivering pizza to Boulder since 1986

Jalino's, a favorite of Boulder area gourmet pizza lovers since 1986, is back in the hands of its long time owner, Tim Dixon. He and his wife, Kristin, have recently returned from San Francisco, where they spent three years sharpening their superb culinary skills. Tim graduated from the celebrated California Culinary Academy in 2000 and Kris from Tante Marie pastry school in 2001. While in northern California, they worked at such prestigious restaurants as the Ritz Carlton and The Meeting House.

Editorial Review for Jalino's Pizza – by Bryce Edmonds

In Short
The restaurant has a counter in front of the shop and a few stools, but most customers prefer to order their pizzas for carry out. The pizza here isn't Chicago-style or New York-style; it's an amalgam of dough, sauce and cheese techniques. Customers can pile on a grocery list of toppings and even have it vegan-style with soy cheese. The sandwiches are great, too, and the calzones are a solid choice, although not as gooey as some may like.

Takeout pies are pre-sauced and kept warm. The end result is not as good as the prepared-to-order version.

***I will never buy a pizza from Jalino's again.*** Jalino's delivery times are often very slow, but last weekend our pizza took TWO HOURS to arrive. When our pizza hadn't arrived after an hour we called the store. We were told that it was already on its way. 30 minutes later the pizza still hadn't arrived. We called again and were told the same thing. When our pizza (which wasn't even cooked all the way through) finally arrived after two hours (and the delivery driver told us she had left the store 10 minutes earlier?), my boyfriend called and asked to speak to the owner. Although he was frustrated, my boyfriend was polite on the phone and just wanted to know why we had been given differing information, and if they would offer us a discount. The owner was very rude and unapologetic about our long wait and the inconvenience. While he eventually gave us a refund for the pizza, he never offered an apology. I understand that it can get busy on the weekends, and I understand that delivery times can be slow. But the owner should have at least been kind enough to apologize for the fact that we had waited two hours for our pizza. Instead, he acted as though we were being difficult and demanding by calling him, and that we were trying to scam him by asking for a discount. I do not want to contribute my money to an owner who treats his customers so poorly. Maybe we were just unlucky enough to catch the owner on a bad day, but I'm still not going to order from Jalino's ever again. Also, I'm not sure why Jalino's is described as "cheap eats." This is some of the priciest pizza in town. While there is a wide range of options for toppings and the pizzas are usually quite tasty, these aren't organic pizzas. Yet a SMALL pizza with only one topping will run you $13! And that's BEFORE tax and delivery charges and tips.

Pros: Many options for toppings & sauces, soy cheese

Cons: Poor customer service, slow delivery times, very expensive

I must preface this commentary by saying that of all the pizzas I've had in Boulder, CO this is the better of them. While still not up to par with pizzas form coastal cities, at least the pizzas do not arrive soggy. They actually have toppings like feta and artichokes - not that you can find that at many pizzerias in town. For the most part though most food in Boulder in mediocre at best so I wouldn't expect pizzas to be stellar. It is a little overpriced - but definately better than Dominos.
