The Scene
Why do hard time with screaming babies and droning CNN when you could be receiving a hot stone massage or a seaweed facial just down the concourse? Determined to relieve some of the stress of airline travel, this pair of white, orange and chrome spa spaces--one beyond security, one beforehand--is designed to be as relaxing to harried travelers as possible. Happily, it succeeds.
The Services
You won't break the bank for one of d_parture's top-notch treatments, which run the gamut from the usual hair, nail and waxing services to site-specific specialties like "The Weary Traveler" (pedicure, paraffin treatment, oral spray and napping privileges). All the offerings are crafted to counteract the agonies of air travel, which means detox options like sinus facials, scalp massages and jet lag-combatting oxygen therapy. Note that full-body treatments are only done at the Terminal B location, where there's a private room; Terminal C has shoji-screen dividers and chair massages.
The Details
Massage, facials, hair removal, manicure/pedicure, full-service salon.
The Details on Departure Spa
Know Before You Go:
The Terminal C site is inside airport security, so unless you've got a ticket to fly, avail yourself of the treatments at the Terminal B spa, which is outside the gates and open to the public.
Know Before You Go:
The chair massages are a fine way to relieve aches from a long flight, but be sure to tell your masseur if you prefer a lighter touch--or you'll emerge feeling like you just flew transatlantic in the luggage bay.
Look Good:
Why not arrive early and beautify before guests touch down? Or opt for a relaxing massage before the in-laws' flight gets in?
Save Money:
Airport employees receive 10 percent off products and services; 15 percent off nail services.
