All Around Excellent!

Stumbled in early on a Saturday night and walked out with a smile. Great food, terrific atmosphere, and competant service. I came here on a date and was truly relaxed. We weren't rushed out the door at all! Pretty rare these days, especially for the now trendy and over-crowded restaurants in the LES. I highly recommend.
- Pros: Weren't rushed through dinner.
- Cons: Get there early because of limited seating.
Bad karma all around.

I read the reviews of this place, and I can't believe anyone visited the same place I did. The crowd was a hideous mix of posturing tourists and bridge-and-tunnel matrons. The waitress actually seemed to be trying to make my date and me uncomfortable - maybe she didn't like the fact that we were two guys who were obviously a couple. The food? No idea. After waiting more than half an hour, we left. The waitress' response, when we asked about our meals: "It'll be ready when it's ready". If you're dumb enough or juvenile enough to enjoy this kind of experience, rush down to Rivington Street now. Otherwise, do like we did - cross the street to El Sombrero, which was already a neighborhood institution when I moved here in 1984, for good service and cheap, tasty food without the bad karma.

I love Paul's.
Seriously, the new management is fantastic. It's an easy layed back place, with enormous windows that allows for fantastic people viewing year round. the food is marvelous, the brie with honey is DIVINE... the wine list is superb... the comfy room with window seats allows you to relax with a fantastic coffee or cocktail and eat light fare with delicious accents. a true gem in the LES.
- Pros: people watching, great coffee, cozy atmosphere
