Eggs Benedic-TION!. A couple years ago Cafeteria, South Beach left much to be desired - the service was the absolute worst! Okay, maybe not worse than Nexxt Cafe, but a very close second. So last Sunday a friend of mine suggested the Cafeteria located in New York's Chelsea district. Hesitantly I conceded, plagued by preconceived notions of my experience(s) on Lincoln Road. The wait was 45 minutes, but I'd say that's typical of a small establishment when it's 20? and no one wants an outside table. Although the bearer of bad news, the Hostess was pleasant nonetheless. We took our Mimosas at the bar and waited patiently to be seated. Soon thereafter, we were whisked away into "CaVeteria" - a cocoon-like space of white leather banquettes and pale blue ceilings nestled beneath the frenzy of the restaurant upstairs. Within moments, Anthony appeared to take our order. He was attentive, charming, knowledgeable and polite - all the qualities of an exceptional server. The Blackberry Lemonade was tart and tangy. The Mac and Cheese Spring Rolls are by far my favorite item on the menu. Served with a Smoked Gouda Cheese Dipping Sauce you'll need to order one for yourself. I can't even begin to describe them. On our first trip (yes, I had to go back again today), I had the Three Eggs (Any Style). Fantastic! On our second trip, I had the Eggs Benedict. One of the measures of a good chef is his/her ability to cook eggs and I have no complaints. My eggs were poached perfectly - fluffy, light...they caressed the palette. Cafeteria has thus redeemed itself! On both trips, my party and I had a great time; we've vowed to return each and every Sunday we're in New York. Greg, the manager on duty, is truly an asset to the Cafeteria Group. He's accommodating, pleasant and keeps things moving with enthusiasm. I'm pleased to know that I have somewhere to go where I can enjoy a casual yet modern ambiance, delicious food, excellent management (Hey Greg!) and exemplary service (Hey Anthony!).
