“like the wine list too which has a nice selection of fun and interesting wines at reasonable prices.”
“had the bluefish as an entree (to die for) and she had oxtail stuffed i n zucchini and she practically licked her plate - the desserts were scrumptious.”
“Nice little wine list with some inexpensive gems.”
“Nice place, bad food”
“The night we went, they were out of a couple of the items on the menu, which is acceptable considering how fresh the ingredients are.”
“Warm, sincere energy -- great date place.”
“was so full I actually, sinfully, left a morsel of my scrumptious profiterole dessert on my plate but I'll be back again and wont eat all day to be sure I can enjoy it to its fullest!”
“was accompanied by foodies, yet the waiter treated the few questions people had about the menu as if he was dealing with diners who had never eaten at a decent restaurant.”
“Our waiter recommended an excellent bottle of wine at a great price.”
“We finally sat at 9:30 having been told the crowd was very slow moving.”
A lovely, romantic restaurant that has only gotten better in its ten years on Bleecker Street. Understated and underhyped but first-rate.

Sitting in the glass enclosed patio, surrounded by organic elements is lovely. Wood-fired roasted chicken, green beans with garlic, and crisp fries. Impeccable service.
First of all I really like the name
"August" :D
Service, food and atmosphere was great!
Super romantic lighting. The food was good. The decor and lighting were awesome. Good wine selection. The wait staff was friendly (albeit very busy). The tables were a bit close, so much so that I felt several times as if I was in the middle of someone else's conversation and interrupting with my own. Maybe the trick is to go early on a weeknight. The bus boy put worcestershire in our olive oil instead of balsamic YUK. They ran out of several dishes by 7:00 pm, which to me seems like poor planning in the kitchen. I am all for conceding that mistakes happen, or it's "one of those nights" . However, In this price range you don't get to have "those nights". I have to say I was a little disappointed, next time I will opt for something else where what is listed on the menu is available and I can hear my dinner date. There are a million restaurants in NYC, on to the next one.
GREAT FOOD, Warm attentive service, atmosphere. After reading some of the reviews we were a bit hesitant about eating here. It's a lovely, inviting place. In the heart of the village, cozy (we like cozy, though some refer to this as cramped)...so what's not to like? Nothing as far as we're concerned. Nice people and Great food. Good recommendations from our waiter. We shared a charcuterie appetizer plate which is something I usually don't order but this was terrific. A wonderful selection. All our entrees were excellent. My only con was I think they should turn off the music which leaned toward rock which is entirely inappropriate in a place which most people (even the naysayers) say is romantic. I say cut the music entirely and let people talk and hear one another. I for one am tired of screaming in too many New York restaurants. Good place, Great people.
Just something to think about. I am finally back in bed after spending the morning in the bathroom. The fish I had was very fishy last night and when I complained the manager she said this was how it was supposed to be. Just something to think about when you're booking a reservation.
Great atmosphere!. August has ambiance nailed down. Romantic and cozy without being over the top. Immediate comfort as you walk in the door. Service is friendly without pretense, and the food is fabulous. Definitely one of the best in the west village!
you must try at least once. I am giving this restaurant 5 stars for its 5 star service and 5 star food. I went for the first time yesterday for dinner and had such an amazing experience I must find a reason to go back soon. I had the pimenton mussels to start and the beef for my entree. Both were delicious. Mmm. This is a restuarant in the city that you must try at least once.
Best Brunch in the West Village!!.
My husband and I walked into this little place, and the hostess immediately asked us if we'd like a table in the back. The back? We had no idea. We walked back to this area that looked like a little secret garden. How perfect. The food was perfect, and really reasonable.
This place was the perfect brunch for our last day in NYC!
Good Restaurant Week Experience. Went to dinner here last week for Restaurant week and my friends and I were quite impressed by the quality of the food and the setting. The dishes were on the small side, very typical of most restaurant week menus, though well thought out and well executed. We supplemented our restaurant week dishes with a couple of apps, namely a delicious chicken liver dish and a summer bean salad that was very refreshing and one of those dishes that really made you feel the seasonality of its components. The wine list was well composed with a nice range of prices and options. It's refreshing to see a list that focuses on European wines. While the service was competent and most satisfactory, it was definitely the weak point of a strong showing; not precisely what I would term warm and hospitable. All in all I would certainly return to this place to further explore the menu.
Has gone downhill. I don't know what's going on with this place, but the last time I went, it was awful. Bad food, nasty service and too pricey for what they're serving. I'm a food professional myself and would not recommend this place to anyone -- the atmosphere is nice but that doesn't make up for all the other negatives, namely the food. The diners are the next table were complaining about the food as well the night we were there, and several friends have said they noticed this place has gone downhill as well.
Nice atmosphere for a late morning after brunch.. I walked in not knowing anything about the place. It was getting windy and I could tell that my girlfriend was getting tired of just walking around the village. I have to say I was upset when we first entered and we stood for a few minutes just waiting for our presence to be acknowledged. I almost left when the Hostess took us in the back to be seated. It was then where I was impressed. The back room is filled with small tables and inclosed in all glass. Very nice. I ordered a burger which had some of the best seasoned fries ever. In the end I'll go back. I let the hostess slide this time.
