“will never goto this place again (although the hostess (not the waitresses) was really nice and I like the concept of an OTB in a bar because, though I only watch horse racing once or twice a year, it is fun to bet on).”

great atmosphere, good layout. Always welcome at this bar and the staff is friendly. conveniently offers 2 levels to manage traffic flow, never overcrowded. Free food on certain nights!
Amending last review. The too loud band has worked out their noise issues. They are very, very good.
really poor customer service - really awful experience. Me and some friends went to the Playwright for the Belmont Stakes. I've been there before. We didn't have a reservation but were seated. Shortly after being seated we were interrogated by two waitresses who questioned where we got our beers, and whether we were going to order food. Point in fact, one of our party had earlier asked for food be ordered and was ignored. After she gave us our menus and he said he needed a few minutes she stood and waited with glaring eyes until he finally ordered a burger (which looked pretty good, to be fair). What ensued next was an hour of really awful, inattentive service. For two waitresses who earlier seemed fixated on whether we were "worthy" being seated (i.e. racking up an appropriate bill) they didn't cooperate by allowing us to purchase beers. Within 1 minute of the big race being over (after which two more races followed), we were told we had to leave as another party was coming in at 7 pm (about 30 minutes away at that point). The bill arrived and, as I predicted, they had included a gratuity. The menu said gratuity was included for 6 or more - we had 5 people. I questioned the waitress on this (as anyone who knows me can tell you, I am the absolute last person to ever complain about a check), the waitress told us that it was due to the race and walked away so quickly it made me laugh. I will never goto this place again (although the hostess (not the waitresses) was really nice and I like the concept of an OTB in a bar because, though I only watch horse racing once or twice a year, it is fun to bet on). This is the first review I've ever written - this place ticked me off that badly. I actually wrote on the check: "I'm going to write you a bad review on citysearch". They probably couldn't have cared less. What I also found humorous was that they undercharged us by at least 6 drinks.
Editorial Review. Irish pub located in the Theatre District has a variety of beers to choose from and a full dining room.
Looking for a Friendly, Neighborhood Irish Pub?.
After enjoying $11 lunch specials on back to back occasions, I decided to have my send-off party here on a Friday night. It was AMAZING. Everyone, from the waiters to the spectacular bartenders, to the generous manager accommodated our large group with personalized service and sincere Irish hospitality.
The crowd was just like our group - mostly good-looking, friendly young professionals. The vibe is casual and not stuffy at all. They have a quieter dining area in the back, multiple televisions airing sports at all times, and a classy off-track betting lounge upstairs.
Their touch-screen jukebox has an amazing selection of everything - I was able to play a set of tunes from The Pogues, Def Leppard, The Pixies, New Order, Michael Jackson, Lou Reed, Duran Duran, and Social Distortion.
I highly recommend a visit, especially if you will celebrate a special occasion. Just ask for the manager a day in advance and they will treat you like a superstar.
A REALLY GREAT PLACE FOR GOOD OLE' TIME. My company is located a mere block away so we've pretty much made this our "central perk". We know the bartenders by name and they are all so friendly and down to earth. There are no flashy, pretentious waiters or bartenders, it's like a family. I don't know about the prices because my company always fits the bill, but when it comes to atmosphere and service, you get the feeling of Cheers, everyone knows your face at least and no one (meaning other patrons) really pays attention to you. You get good songs for a good price and good drinks (no watered down). They also bring in a band on some nights, I believe on the weekends especially and the bands are usually very good. Nice and well-rounded. I am a hip-hop fan, but my co-workers love mostly rock, but we ALL have a good time.
good food and service. stayed at comfort inn across street and cause the weather was awful, we decided to check out the local restaurants. The hostess was very friendly and told us of all the specials. The food was quite tasty and a great price for New York. A great value.
A great deal!. Good food and cheap drinks. Great for hanging out and getting to know somebody.
