What People Are Saying About Whiskey Tavern

In Short – From the ashes of grubby Baxter Pub is born this loud sports saloon, built by the brothers who brought us Whiskey Town in the East Village. Appropriately, more than three dozen whiskeys are offered, including Old Gristmill's potent White Lighting and smooth Pappy Van Winkle. The pours can be paltry, so order a domestic beer chaser like Miller High Life or Brooklyn Lager before kicking back to watch the game on four flat-screens or nabbing a backyard picnic table. – – Hits: After a hard day of work downtown, you'll thank the heavens that this bar serves stiff…

Very friendly, comfortable bar for hanging out

by lalapine

This is a really great place to hang out. The back patio is awesome when it's warm enough to go outside. The owners are really friendly and remember you when you come back. The food is very good (nice greasy burgers, excellent Cobb salad, tater tots!) so I go there often for lunch. It can get pretty crowded Fridays at night. The DJ does play a lot of 80s/early 90s music, but I really enjoy it. It's one of the best bars in the area.

(As a note, the 2007 review should be ignored because they changed ownership a little over a year ago.)

  • Pros: Excellent bar food, owners/bartenders are very nice

Enough with the Josey song....and other 80's music

by NYC34beerfreak

Just checked out this bar tonight. Can't stand the 80's music. I mean come on, seriously and whats the dj, he plays terrible but thinks hes so sweat. Angry I took the 6 train all the way down here. Stay above Canal, unless you're heading to Jeremy's Ale House. Oh and thanks for the expensive draft prices...

The Worst Experience EVER

by spongechum

I had jury duty near here and wanted to watch some of the NCAA Tournament so I stepped in into this hole in the wall place for but to eat. When I first walked in there were three empty stools at the bar but the bartender said someone was sitting at the first one, so i moved down to the next one and was told someone was sitting there. Okay! He didn't once explain that the people were out for a smoke and coming back he just snipped at me like he didn't care for me. A gentlemen at the end of the bar saw this and gave me his chair because he was just having one beer and leaving. Once this guy left the bartender told me again I couldn't sit there. I should have just left but I only had a certain amount of time to eat and get back to jury duty so I moved over to a table. The waitress was okay but obviously extremely busy, she was the only one tending to the tables. 45 minutes later I got my burger, which was okay, run of the mill bar burger. I ate and went back to jury duty and had the chance to watch a little of the first day of march madness but the experience I had with the bartender really made me want to write something to warn people about this place. The bartender ended up keeping those three chairs open until a few ladies showed up but nobody returned to the tables, what a A$$H073. The clientele was mostly lawyers, it was right behind the courthouse so that makes sense, and blue collar workers, not sure where they were coming from. I should have ventured into Chinatown for something different.

Service: Slow

Employees: RUDE/A$$H073S

Price: Not worth the harassment from the bartender

Grade: F

  • Pros: close to courthouse and jury duty
  • Cons: really bad service
