Basics and Unique Stuff Too.
Whenever I wear my hippie-chic, cotton, quite unique looking, ethnic blouses and dresses I bought on my last Old Navy shopping spree (years ago, I’ll admit) I always get compliments and notes of surprise when I tell them I bought these pieces at there. Of course, hippie-chic is not only what Old Navy does well- they tend to follow whatever the trend of the season is, and are great for staples like jeans, khaki, dirt-cheap fleece sweat-shirts, pajamas and fun accessories like scarves, mittens, hats, and flip-flops (oh, the colors of flip-flops- they have a whole wall of them in every conceivable hue). Old Navy is huge, well-organized and cheap. So cheap you may find yourself over-buying and loading up with their for in-store use only, mega-sized shoulder shopping bags. The basement offers even more cheapness goldmine… all their clearance stuff.
They are well-known for having great plus-size and maternity size options (and note: the maternity stuff can look cute on non-pregnant “bigger” or plus size women too).
As far as Old Navy stuff lasting (quality), I still am rocking all the stuff I bought in 2006, and it looks no worse for the wear, nor does it look inherently out of style. The cotton knits are soft and light-weight, and did not pill or fade.
Old Navy is great for basics- cotton, wearable and unfussy. They also have clothes for the entire family in one store- men, women, infants, children, teens, maternity, plus-size, etc…
Khakis, sweaters and other fun, casual pieces for budget-conscious folks..
In Short
The family-friendly chain is the third in a lineage of reasonably priced clothing stores (Banana Republic and the Gap are the older siblings). Huge, loft-like spaces and disco soundtracks make shopping here an upbeat experience. Men's, women's and children's jeans share space with khakis, T-shirts, sweaters, sleepwear, outerwear and seasonal items, such as ski hats, swimsuits and Halloween costumes.
