Tosler Davis

Best Salon in New York by New York Magazine

  • Precision and Razor Cuts
  • Color Highlight and Correction
  • Late Night Thursdays

Ten floors above the bustle of Fifth Avenue, the bright airy loft feels like a stylish friend's apartment. Tosler Davis serves a varied clientele of art-gallery scenemakers, media mavens as well as executives and out-of-towners.

We prefer a mellow, relaxed environment and work to create an intimate setting where the staff knows you by name after a few visits.

While many salons tout a signature look, Tosler Davis prefers to listen to the needs of their clients and re-interprets the trends for a personalized service. Clients can expect to leave the salon looking current but still like themselves.

Make an appointment with our Highlight Specialist Beth Ann. Your blonde will never have looked better!

Tosler Davis now has extended evening hours on Thursdays, as well as early morning appointments every Saturday. Please call to ask for details.

Editorial Review for Tosler Davis – by Sandra Ramani

The Scene
Founded by English expat stylist Alan Tosler and expert colorist Sean Davis, Tosler Davis is one of the city's best-kept hair secrets. Regulars like it that way; the low-key vibe is part of the appeal. With the reception desk and color team nestled into one long, skinny, sun-drenched room, and cutting area in a slightly larger nook, the apartment-like feel plays up that sense of privacy; sleek design, Eames chairs and quirky touches like an antique barber tools display, keep it chic.

The Services
The staff has worked an average of 15 years in the biz, so chances are you'll be seen by a pro. Each stylist and colorist has his or her own technique (some colorists use foils; others "paint" strands,) but the result is always modern, easy to maintain and tailored to the client. Free bang trims or conditioning treatments for regulars are available, as are products by Terax, Kusco-Murphy and Aeto.

If I could give more stars I would. TS is hands down the best kept secret in town. Everyone that works there is down to earth and sweet. I have been to Bumble and Bumble and John Sahag - NO ONE compares. Alan is a hair cutting rock star but totally unassuming. I leave the salon looking like a celebrity. I've been getting my hair done at TS for 9 years now and still go there all the way from Boston with my toddler in tow. I'm completely addicted and you will be too.

Had one of the best cuts of my life (i have obnoxiously fine hair with a very odd wave in it) from Tuula; rebooked 8 weeks later for trim to find she'd left! If only I'd known. Liz did next cut and while it was good, was nothing like the first cut - didn't understand my look or what I needed so I went in with cool Sally Hershberger like layers and came out with a boring, but precise, bob.
