Impeccable work and service

It doesn't get any better. I've seen many tailors over the years and Ghost Tailor takes the cake. Given any challenge - re-working vintage suits, rebuilding time-worn favorites - this shop consistently finds expert, elegant and imaginative solutions, no mater how many times I believed it couldn't be done. Rare in NYC, the owner listens, she cares and brings a genuine sense of craftsmanship and enthusiasm to each visit. Damn it, she makes hemming fun. Straight-forward, fairly priced and always memorable (the experience and quality live on in the clothes), I give Ghost Tailor my Top Pick.
- Pros: Expert work, interested & responsive service, upbeat & energized experience. Great price.
- Cons: She isn't (but should be) purring out her own line of clothing.
Skilled Tailor - Recommended

My experience with Jean (Ghost Tailor) couldn't have been better. I had three of my father's vintage suits altered...all were perfect when I picked them up last week. She had even repaired a delicate lining in a jacket that I had forgotten to tell her was damaged. Jean is professional and definitely has the magic touch. Working with her was a pleasure.
- Pros: Professional, fun to work with
- Cons: The elevator in her building is the slowest in NYC ;-)
Unreliable and Overpriced

I found Ghost Tailor to be unreliable, manipulative and greatly overpriced. NOT RECOMMENDED! I used her once and will never again. She spent an hour with me at first talking as if we were great friends. Then made a big show of saying how it was going to be so very complicated to take in this dress of mine, and because I was going to wear it to a wedding, I think she took that as an opportunity to raise the price even more to nearly $200. Having not had dresses altered before, and since she had been recommended to me by a friend and since she spent an hour with me, I felt pushed into the service. When I returned to pick the dress up, she was almost a different personality entirely, rude and abrupt. Saying this was a simple easy job (apparently forgetting her earlier statements!) and just wanting me to pay and leave asap. When I tried on the dress, it was still too loose in the bodice, not fixed to the degree I requested and when I said so, Ghost Tailor argued that it was fine, even though I was unhappy with the fit. She was so pushy, I felt I just had to agree and pay. She even made fun of the check I used to pay her with. In the end, I felt like I had been scammed and manipulated and she didn't even do what I asked for! Several weeks later, before the wedding, I tried on the dress and still hated the fit, so I ran to my local Korean tailor who fixed the dress neckline exactly as I asked for only $15 even overnight! It was awesome! I should have gone to her in the first place, instead of wasting my hard-earned money at Ghost Tailor. I tried to give her a big tip and she refused it. I could not help but think how unfair it is that Ghost Tailor is this priveledged white woman who can get away with charging so much in order to pay for her fancy house upstate and manhattan apartment rent, when even more capable and service-oriented Korean women make so little in comparison. Support your local tailor and not this scammer.
- Pros: May "pamper" you in order to manipulate
- Cons: overpriced, unreliable, will not listen
