OK Haircut - AWFUL Customer Service. 7:00pm appointment

I arrived at 6:30.

by 7:15, after sitting in a chair while the stylists talked, I was approached for a thirty second consultation.

by 7:45, a young man came over and started aggressively touching me, which apparently is the complimentary shoulder massage. an introduction or a greeting would have been nice.

by 8:00, I had a very uncomfortable shampoo by the way the chairs reclined.

by 8:20 once my hair was mostly dry, she finally cut it, though proceeded to spend the entire conversation complaining about how tired she was and how she was mad they kept booking her late appointments.

by 8:50, I finally left, $85 later.

I will not be returning. I would have walked out but was almost amused at the lack of attention and service, or the fact that not one person apologized for having me wait while they were too busy chatting in the back (which is not as private as they seem to think - you too can be privy to several racist comments about other clients!).

Color disaster with Garik. Garik is not unskilled; he just doesn't seem to care all that much about what the customer wants.

I went to him for the first (and last) time for hair color, highlights, and a cut. While the cut was good and the highlights meticulously applied, the base color, which he'd described as "a mix of dark blonde and light brown," somehow came out almost black--so dark that the highlights got lost in it. With my pale skin, I looked like a Goth, or a witch, which couldn't have been farther from the natural look I had asked for. When I told him I was worried that the wet dye looked awfully dark, he just shrugged and said, "That's the color you're getting." (As a bonus, I also found several dye stains on my face when I got home.)

At the end of the cut, since I hadn't specifically booked a blow-dry, he had no interest in styling my hair ("just do what you usually do," he said--though if I was so happy with what I usually did, I wouldn't have been trying a new salon), and was perfectly ready to send me out into cold with sopping wet hair--except one of the receptionists look pity and got someone to dry it for a few minutes.

The dye job was so bad that I actually went to a different salon for color correction a few hours later. That stylist listened to what I wanted, and I'll happily go there again--but never back to Liz Russell and/or Garik.

Madion is Amazing!. I am extremely picky about who I let near my head with scissors. I moved to NYC a few years ago and happened to luck out (or maybe it was fate!) when I walked into an upper east side salon (amour on 2nd)and was graced with the talents of Madion. I will never, ever let anyone else touch my hair. He is funny, patient, kind, and above all an incredible stylist. Imagine my anxiety when I called the ues salon and was told that he "disappeared" and that they had no idea where he was. ??? I was in complete shock and when I asked the receptionist where he went, she told me that "he had some kind of emergency and wasn't coming back" BUT "they had his color book" so they could book me with someone else. I laughed and said no thanks. Thanks to some creative googling I was able to discover that Madion was working at Liz Russell and booked myself an appointment. The salon is laid back and welcoming - a good spot to chill without any uppity vibes. It turns out that the ues salon was completely full of it and had lied to me - the story was not what the receptionist said it was. I would follow Madion anywhere and suggest you do the same, you will not regret it!

OMAHHGAAADD!!. WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN?!!??! I work right around the corner from this place and for the past 3 years I've been passing by this place never thinking about getting my hair done here. I must say though, it is better late than never!

Anyway, I had the most wonderful stylist. Her name is Michelle. She's freakin' great. I mean, for the past 4 years, I haven't been able to walk out a salon with the same length hair, and with beautiful, BEAUTIFUL, layers until today! I was SOO scared and weary about tryng out this new place, but Liz Russell had so many great reviews, I had to give it a shot. This place is worth it. All the stylists looks up to par, and they are all soo wonderful. I'm not even exaggerating! It's too bad that most stylists aren't mentioned here for reviews- only some particular ones. But anyway, I like, no.. LOVEEE Michelle's work. I can't stop O-MAH-Gahing..

You can tell that Michelle was serious about her work too. She'll do exactly what you ask, and since I like stylists that really go at it with your hair.. I loved her more! I never liked those dainty stylist that took foreverr to cut your hair. This one meant business. She also convinced me to get a trim every two months because I have a stylist that I can trust now! GO MICHELLE! I'll be back in two months to get a trim and color for the upcoming winter season!

by the way, i'm pretty sure it's the styling that's super wowing me, but if i can see what my hair can do now, i can only imagine what more it can bring to the table. :)

My experience at Liz Russell. I went in with my daughter, who is 15, as she wanted to get her long hair cut before school. Since she was getting a lot of hair cut, which takes a long time to grow back, she wanted to go "some place good." So, that ruled out the numerous salons near our home in NJ. Liz Russell looked good and it was also walking distance from the Japan Society, where my daughter is currently taking a class.

We were very much impressed with all the products. So many, and they explained them well too.

They also gave me an unexpected neck massage, but my daughter didn't get one, which surprised me.

My daughter loves, loves, loves her haircut. Mine was also good, but I have such thin hair it's hard to duplicate. We particularly liked the detailed vertical scissor cuts to give volume. They never do this at the cheap places.

We had Ivy and Sarah, and I'd recomend them both.

I thought it was well worth it and a good value, and I'd highly recommend the place.

Exellent!. I most definitely recommend Mara, the color specialist who took care of me. I was in serious need of help, my color was horrible and my hair was super frizzy. She recommended doing a single process and highlights to add dimension to the color and for my frizziness she provided a keratin smoothing treatment. I ask if it was possible to have everything done in one day and she said definitely. I was a bit reluctant but went for it because she took the time to listen and her consultation was thorough. When it was done all I could say was OMG! What a spectacular job she did on my hair. I wanted to wait and see how my hair would turn out, 4 weeks after my appointment, before I wrote a review. My color is still marvelous and my hair is soft/shiny and does not frizz. Mara is truly a genius and knows what she is doing!

Madion is amazing!. I am a long time customer of Madion's. I went to him when he was at a different salon and followed him to Liz Russell Aveda Lifestyle. He gives an amazing haircut and the BEST blowout I have ever gotten. I have sent tons of friends to him and they have all become Madion followers, too. Great for highlights as well. When he highlighted my hair, I got lots of compliments.

Natalie is so much fun, and is amazing for highlights!!. Natalie is the greatest hair colorist EVER!!!! She is a perfectionist and she really knows what she is doing. I asked her to color my hair for the summer. I have very dark brown/black hair. She made my hair look like the sun streaked my hair "naturally." I am not kidding. She said she was going to do it that way too, but I really didn't think she would be able to make it REALLY look like the sun lightened my hair from being on the beach every weekend in the sun (make believe of course!). I have watched people get their hair done at other salons. I would see streaked hair, highlights, lowlights, blond hair get blonder, touch-ups, and they are only "fair" compared to Min. She is really an artist. If she can make my hair look naturally lightened by the sun in beautiful caramel hues and dark golds she can do anything with your hair.

Natalie is really an expert !!! I just love my hair!!!!. I've been to a lot of salons before in the past and i havent found anyone as good as Natalie. I called the salon and let them know of my previous bad experiences and they suggested i see Natalie, one of their color specialists. My hair is very difficult to color because it turns red very easily. I was looking for natural looking highlights, as if lightened by the sun, to brighten my face but not noticebly processed. Natalie was the greatest! She took her time to listen and talked out the process with me until we came to a full understanding and agreement of what would be done. The results are fabulous!!! I got it done 3 weeks ago and I am still enjoying immensely. The color came out exactly the way I wanted it. And no turning red like in most other salons. Natalie is really an expert and a true professional. Really sweet too!! I will follow her wherever she goes!!! :) I finally found my perfect colorist (and I have been searching for years)

Natalie is amazing!. I have been salon hoping for years and have finally found my little piece of heaven right here in New York. As a career woman we are always faced with the challenge of juggling many tasks at once and we hardly have time to think about our hair. My stylist Natalie has taught me that with a little time and the proper hair care products, beauty can be achieved. I felt like a true princess when I sat down in her chair. She took me step by step on how to dry my hair and proper condition it. Thank you Natalie, you will definatley get repeat visits from me.
