What People Are Saying About Ellen

In Short – Find well-picked vintage items--some from big names, some just looking like it--enhanced by owner and former makeup artist Ellen Koenigsberg's editorializing scrawls on the tags ("Looks like Gucci to me?"). Her collection offers one-stop shopping for the retro addict: Past scores have included a cat-print blouse (very Alice Roi), some fine belts, a pair of old-lady-cool platform sandals in navy blue and a heart-stopping Marimekko dress.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Ellen personally picks out each piece in the store, and brings in a few new items every week, so check in often.

  1. This is one vintage store worth seeking out--the clothes are fabulous beyond belief.
  2. For that kind of quality, the reasonable prices are more than justified.
  3. Good clothing, nice clerk, high prices, wish I could have afforded that bag.

Ellen!

by jenny mcgivney

I went into Ellen's yesterday. I didn't buy anything so I guess I am writing this more or less in response. As I walked in I could tell from circling that it was probably expensive. I really liked this one purse. It ended up being something around 250$ which is completely out of my price range.

I do agree that it is extremely pricey. But c'mon, it's in Manhattan! It's something that should unfortunately be expected!

And as for Ellen, I thought she was so nice! I enjoyed my conversation with her equally as much as I enjoyed her clothing. To me, she had very far from a snotty attitude. The clothing was so elegant, and I really love what she did. Imagine how great it would be to have a small boutique with all of your snazzy clothing throughout your life? I suppose it would have cons. I can imagine myself being all like, "oh, that dress is..." and then remember that I had one of the best days of my life when I was wearing it, followed by "400$" That's probably why! She was so nice!

Anyway, before this is declared a rant.

Good clothing, nice clerk, high prices, wish I could have afforded that bag. I would give it 4 stars for a Manhattan trust fund baby.

ellen- good taste, bad attitude

by junk2008

yes, the owner of the store has a great eye, but the items are totally overpriced for what they are- $300 for a dress that is threadbare and stained? she also has a snotty attitude.

  • Pros: nicely chosen vintage
  • Cons: WAY overpriced, snotty owner

Best Vintage Store...Ever!

by moriata

This is one vintage store worth seeking out--the clothes are fabulous beyond belief. Ellen, the proprietor, is sweet and helpful, and her taste in clothing is to die for. In addition to the outstanding vintage treasures, she'll find an ordinary jacket or blouse and add details (buttons, ribbon accents) that make it extraordinary. Unlike most vintage stores, these clothes are lovingly cared for and restored. For that kind of quality, the reasonable prices are more than justified. Ladies, please help keep this store alive!

  • Pros: beautiful clothes, good condition, helpful staff
  • Cons: hard to find
