Go Here if you Like being kicked out for no reason. Terrible Experience. When I went to make a phone call on the street I was told by some man who didnt address himself that I needed to move to the corner. This confused me because it's a public street. I didn't move. This man was a bouncer for McFaddens which is next door. He informed the bouncer at calico jacks that I was not allowed to go back in and that I was a badass (as if I had started a fight). I was promptly not allowed back in without an explanation, and had to wait for twenty minutes out in the cold for my coat. This place treats their bar customers alot like cattle. If the bounce had addressed himself and maybe explained that the cops werent letting people stand in front of the bars I would have moved right away. I ended up missing my friends birthday. WORST BAR.

There's no need to go to a Third World Country for Awful Food .... Americans traveling to Third World Countries face parasites, dysentery, hostile foreigners, and unpalatable cuisine. Calico Jack's saves its customers thousands on their next vacations by bringing all that great Third World action right here to New York. This was by far the WORST so-called "Mexican" meal I have ever had, ANYWHERE -- which is surprising, since Calico Jack's is largely staffed by nasty Central American individuals of questionable immigration status and probable cartel affiliation. The nachos appeared to have been remnants scraped from the dirty plates of customers who had dined before us (and who had declined to finish their similarly poor meals), and tasted as if they had been fished from the trash. There was barely a whole "chip" on the plate, as most seemed to be leftover crumbs and pieces. The chicken was cubed, flavorless and rubbery -- one could almost believe that a near sighted cook may have cut up a rubber chicken that a mischievous staff member purchased from Spencer Gifts as a practical joke. The tacos were abysmal. The "ground beef" was closer to "ground dirt" than any other recognizable substance, and tasted somewhat akin to the black mold now infesting New Orleans-area buildings in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. It has barely been an hour since I left this incredibly bad excuse for a restaurant, and my stomach is already doing the somersaults that usually follow a fresh plateful of Cholera ingested in any one of a number of Third World cesspools. The management and bar staff were obnoxious, as was the hostess who seated us. Our waitress was the one saving grace to this horrid experience, as she was obviously much too pleasant and well trained for this festering boil on the backside of Turtle Bay. Save your money (as it is also overpriced) and try somewhere else. As bad as any other Mexican restaurant might be, it won't be as bad as Calico Jack's.

Worst Experience. I would advice no one go to this bar. The bouncer and the manager were both incredibly rude and inconsiderate. As a native New Yorker, I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I will never step foot in this below mediocre bar, and I will be sure no one I know does either. Not to mention the bar was populated with the underage intern scene and smelled like some one had gotten sick. There are so many good bars in New York City, and this is certainly not one.

Great for Friday Happy Hour. A good and cheap way to start the weekend after a loooong week at work. They have very cheap open bar that will get you started on the way to hitting other venues later that nite. Staff are great and they really hook u up with strong drinks. This bar reminds me of that freshman bar I used to go to when I had a fake ID. It was the best bar to go to because everybody got wasted and as we all know wasted=good effin times! You can also sign up for free open bar which you will most likely win within 2 weeks. They also have this thing when they make girls dance on top of the bar like in that movie coyote ugly. It's only good when hot chicks dance on it and not ugly fat girls but its all fun i guess especially seeing chicks that don't know how to dance. I got up there once (the only dude besides staff to get up there!!) and it was fun. Of course I was wasted when I did that otherwise I would have NOT gone up there. Hahaha. Go and experience the fun/good times!! Ohh and the food is great too especially when you are wasted and you are just hungry for anything!!

Good Music, Drink Specials. I'm not really into the club scene but really enjoyed the vibe of this place. It's not a club but a place where you can dance (to good music) with your friends. We had the best drink specials and can I just mention that it had the HOTTEST male bartenders in NYC. Smart hiring by the manager. I did not try the food but by looking at the menu - looked decent. I do have to say that our waitress was somewhat rude and extremely unaccommodating. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Good bar... Unfortunately I didn't try the food here but they sure do know how to throw good parties. I had a wonderful time here. Had lots of good drinks. The bartenders were entretaining and very generous with the drinks. The crowd, a bunch of roudy young party goers which made it all the better. Be advised that this place gets incredibly crowded and they will charge an admissions fee.

Don't buy the "free party". I was contacted because I "won" a "free party" having entered the one other time I'd been there. The organizer gave me a date, a Saturday, so I thought it would be a good idea to turn it into a dinner too. So I made a 10 person dinner rez, but then got there to find only one waitress, that we were sitting under a very annoying and unflattering hot spotlight that "couldn't be turned off", and that the drink specials we were promised (nothing about the party was actually free) were only available if we ordered from the bar and not from the waitress. I had explicitly asked about this so when we saw the bar 8 people deep, we just left because $2 margaritas can't be that good anyway. In sum, don't think that getting a free party there means anything, and the people that worked there didn't know much about what was going on.

Fun Happy Hour. Went to dinner with some girlfriends on Wednesday at Calico Jacks and had a fun time. The space is pretty large and accomodates both Happy Hour and Dinner patrons. We only had appetizers which were pretty average. The guacamole could have been a little better but that is only my preference. Everyone there seems to enjoy the happy hour. For $7 you can drink unlimited until 7 pm and they have other fun specials. The crowd was mixed which is great and the DJ played great music. The sangria was awesome and the super large margarita looked great. I would recommend going for happy hour since it seems like the most popular time.

Impressed--for only a few dolares. I'm originally from Southern CA, so i would like to think I'm very familiar of how Mexican cuisine should taste like. After being increasingly disappointed by so many Mexican restaurants in NYC, I decided that great Mexican food the way I like it simply doesn't exist here on the East Coast. Went to a gathering here and I was skeptical, but kept an open mind. The margaritas were FANTASTIC, the staff SUPER friendly, and the guacamole AMAZING, and my entree was very tasty!! It's not pricey, just about right. The atmosphere is very cute, the crowd is laid-back, which is amazing for being in an uptight part of town. It's a fun place to kick back with friends. It's now my fave Mexican place in the city...
