out of the way, but worth checking out. I was there only for lunch, but I imagine the place does make for a romantic evening spot. It is a "faux trattoria," but well done (and with real Italian music in the background). The food was good and the price hard to complain about. If it's warm, sit by the window and enjoy people watching.

mmmmmm...lasagna. Great lasagna! This the real homemade goodness we all dream of and never seem to get. This is a homey, comfortable restaurant with friendly staff. It's nicely priced. It's so nice to be welcomed graciously for a change.

Portofino Grille - Great food and excellent service.. I just wrote a bad review on another restaurant and am glad to write a great review on this one. My husband and I went last week, and we ate dinner at the bar. I wish I remembered the bartender's name, he was wonderful. The food was terrific, and the service was even better. He automatically split the two appetizers that we ordered onto two plates for us, he heard us talking about sharing. He also split the one main course we ordered, which was very nice. He was quite busy, both with other diners at the bar and with preparing drinks for the restaurant, but he handled everything, and every single spare second he had he used - either to fill our water glass, wipe the counter, polish a glass, etc. We asked him about a drink he was mixing for someone else, and he gave us a taste of it. It was a delicious white sangria that I'd order next time. We'll definitely go back here, and we'll sit at bar again. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful.

Best Seafood Lasagna. Great place to celebrate a special occasion, the wait staff is friendly and attentive. The food is prepared to order so be patient it?s worth it. My wife makes fun at me because I often order the same thing every time I go to a restaurant, so I did enjoy a wonderful veal chop on my last visit but my favorite is still the seafood lasagna. I have never had any come close to this specialty dish. Great place for a special quiet evening dining experience.

A Bit of a Cliche. I took my boyfriend to Portofino Grille on a Friday night and had a pleasant but cliched experience. The interior of the restaurant is meant to reflect an Italian outdoor dining area and the cheesy lamps and "starlit" ceiling reminded me of a Disney World restaurant...sweet but a bit too idealized. Our waitress did not take our drink order until I finally flagged her down and even then she seemed disinterested in our meal. Two plates of antipasti and bread were placed before us which was a nice touch. Our appetizer of roasted peppers and mozzarella was below average. I ordered a simple baked ziti which was medicore; my boyfriend raved about his seafood ravioli. If you're craving any sort of Italian, Portofino will do. However, if you're looking for truly fabulous food, I wouldn't recommend.

Beautiful Ambience, but Not the Best in NYC. I recently went to Portofino and was completely taken aback by how beautiful and cozy the restaurant is. The wine list and bread were excellent, but I was not overly impressed with my meal (and neither was my boyfriend). As someone who has tasted true Italian food in Italy, I would say that Portofinos take is below average, especially to some other Italian restaurants in NYC. I had a chicken dish and my boyfriend had the vealmaybe the pasta is better? Go for the ambience, but steer clear of the complicated looking dishes.

A Taste of Italy in NYC. Portofino Grille is quite possibly my favorite Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is charming and brings back memories of dining in Venice. The food is incredible and the selection is unbeatable. Service deserves high marks and the prices are below what one would expect to pay for perfection. If you are looking for an excellent Italian dinner in NYC, look no further than Portofino Grille.

Great Upper East Side Italian. Despite the Disney-esque decor, this restaurant has consistently pleased my husband and I with delicious pasta and fast, attentive service. They have an outstanding bread basket complete with two special olive oils and we especially like the four cheese tortellini. This is also a nice choice for bigger parties because of their extensive menu choices.

Mother's Day Under the Stars. Our family had a lovely Mother's Day dinner at Portofino. Even though the restaurant was crowded we were not squished in. Service and food both delightful.
