“Perhaps he is quite adept at simply constructions and/or tailoring, but I would recommend staying away if you have a truly intricate designs and expect high quality with good customer service.”
“You cannot get good service if you are all the time thinking the price is too high.”
Worth Every Penny.
I brought my wedding dress to Guillermo after reading about him in the NY Magazine. I had lost some weight since purchasing the dress, so Guillermo had his work cut out for him.
The price was higher than I had anticipated, but Guillermo was willing to work with me to make the cost more manageable. Note that I had to pay the FULL cost when I dropped off my dress. Talk about trusting someone!
Fortunately, my dress looks gorgeous! Guillermo took excellent care of my dress and, in fact, made it look better than before. I feel wonderful in it and can't wait to wear it at our wedding!
Don't hesitate to bring your most prized garments to Guillermo. You get what you pay for, and Guillermo is the best!
The absolute best. Amazing. Worth the investment for your special, designer pieces
Best tailor in NYC, easily.
I read Guillermo Couture was selected "Best of New York" in New York Magazine, so I visited the GC Studio on 37th St.
True, Guillermo operates on a much higher level than any other custom tailor in New York. He's a whole other world above Ignacio, etc.
I thought: Guillermo's on Fashion TV, there's no way I can afford the guy...but actually, prices were tenable.
Guillermo has mastered the art of making people look sexy/unforgettable.
The walls at Guillermo Couture are a hall of fame(!) He's personally tailored for so many major personalities...I can't believe it!
Advice: don't waste time with B-level tailors...Go to Guillermo
Excellent Designer.
I chose a women in the East Village to design and sew my wedding dress. She did a terrible job, and a week before the wedding, the dress was a mess. I decided to cut my losses, and took it to Guillermo, whom I'd found on citysearch. After my first terrible experience, I was wary. But I figured I had nothing to lose. I got lucky, because Guillermo is a star. In less than a week, he remade the entire dress. All he salvaged was the lace. He re-fit the entire body with new material, added a zipper, buttons, sleeves, a bow that doubled as a train, and a tie-bustle. I saw him every day that week, and he postponed his vacation in order to get the job done. He even worked with the previous designer, in order to get more lace. He exceeded my expectations in every way, and the dress is stunning. It fit perfectly, and the compliment I most frequently got at the wedding (200 people, a church, groom and ushers in formal kilts) was that the dress appeared made especially for me.
Given the work, the cost was cheap. He's a couture designer who appreciates a woman's figure, and knows how to make it look good. I'm surprised by the below reviews. My dress is gorgeous, and involved intricate lace, and a perfect fit. He did it all in less than a week, and he was always courteous and pleasant. I love him.
AMAZING designer!. I have to completely disagree with these apparently jaded reviews. I have never had clothes fit me the way mine do now after Guillermo worked his magic. As someone who has never had a "butt" in trousers, Guillermo made me look like a model. Even clothes I buy in stores, he customizes and makes them look 100% better. He is quite simply a wizard. Those who had the bad experiences I would think walked in with an attitude. You cannot get good service if you are all the time thinking the price is too high. I suggest these folks limit their wardrobe shopping to Filene's basement. New York, if you're looking for the best, believe what the many articles in New York magazine say about this guy.
Terrible Tailor. Yeah, I agree with the other reviews; avoid Guillermo at all costs. When he quoted me an outrageous price, I assumed that he must be good. Wrong! He did a lousy job and refused to redo it because HE couldn't find the ticket for the original work. Actually, he never refused to redo the job; he simply refused to call me back while he had my coat for a month. I'm baffled that he's still in business.
Did not meet expectations.
Guillermo took weeks to complete my custom skirt (I saw the claim that he could do high end design and was looking for someone new to use). In the end, after providing all the material myself, his cost was enormous given that I had to take it to someone else to have it redone (and I didn't get a refund!)
Perhaps he is quite adept at simply constructions and/or tailoring, but I would recommend staying away if you have a truly intricate designs and expect high quality with good customer service.
Terrible Service and Attitude. Avoid this tailor! This is the worst service! He couldn't even complete the dress I wanted made, named an obscene price, and had a terrible attitude problem! On top of all this he made me wait 40 minutes even though I had called ahead for an appointment, while I was waiting I saw the terrible job he did sewing the woman's dress in front of me! TERRIBLE! avoid at all costs!
This patternmaker can do anything, from adjusting skirt hems to copying that new Prada dress..
In Short
Bring in a dress (or a photograph or sketch of a dress) and Guillermo Molina can make a copy of it, using any type of fabric. His company also handles more mundane tasks, such as alterations. Same-day service, and pick-up and drop-off service, are available for the man or woman who need quick tailoring. And house calls, done by Molina himself, are also available.
