ciao ristorante – we had party last night in ciao, was everything nice, food was excellent, homemade pasta, good italian wine, great atmosphere, very funny place, nice waiters and the best bartender
funny! – the food is ok!the ambient is great and busy!jessica is the best waitress ever!!
Don't eat here... – Holidaying in NY many times, this trip we thought we would try some different places. Called in here but wished we'd never set foot in the door. Ordered 2 Peronis and were brought 2 glasses of flat beer-not Peroni. We asked for the wine list but the smarmy waiter sold us a bottle of wine as if he were relying on the commission! I know we should have walked out at this point but too late before night at Cafe Wha? to go elsewhere. Pasta was nothing special and then decided to visit Ladies' restrooms before leaving. It was disgusting..thought I was in a back street Victorian slum with filth. Toilet backed up and stinking (sorry). When there's only a few nights to go out on a holiday, take my advice and don't waste one here. My worst memory of the experience was the creepy waiter despite foul restroom. A rating of one star is far too many!
Great Atmosphere – I enjoyed drinking red wine, eating pasta and relaxing in a cozy place. The service was great. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
great little italian restaurant – I really liked this restaurant because the food was excellent and all the pasta was fresh. I had the twist pasta with pesto sauce and shrimp which was incredible. The fresh seafood were unbelievebly fresh as well. this place is truly passionate about italian food and wine. It was an absolute pleasure to eat here. The staff here is full of energie and makes you feel like you are in the south of italy at a cozy little trattoria. This place is a new favorite, I cannot wait to introduce all my friends to this place. In the summer they even have sidewalk seating. I will be there every weekend!
cozy atmosphere, excellent italian food – I went to Ciao with husband (who is italian) for a nice dinner. We had a lovely evening there. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. Our server was a sweet italian boy that was extremely knowledgable about both italian food and wine. I was impressed not only b y the food but by the extensive wine selection as well. We enjoyed the tuna tartar and a salad with mixed green and gorgonzola to start and then the codfish special. It was excellent. The owner obviously knows italian cuisine.
THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN THE VILLAGE! I LOVE THIS PLACE – I went to Ciao on friday night with a group of five friends. We had the best time! I live in the neighborhood and rarely eat in the restaurants nearby. This place was amazing! We shared a bunch of appetizers to start-I really loved the antipasto platter-a selection of outstanding italian meats, cheeses and olives. We all enjoyed the entrees, my gnocchi was out of this world and was made fresh at the restaurant. The staff are mostly from italy and they are so friendly and attentive. This is a gem of a place in the village!
Terrible in all aspects. – This is the WORST restaurant. Please do not go here, every time I walk by and see anyone eating here a small piece of me will die. It's that bad. Terrible food. Terrible burnt coffee. Terrible service. The menu does not remotely match what they actually have available, and they do not tell you this until after they've brought you drinks (but the menus have already been brought to you). The credit card policy does match what the menu says. Food was terrible. Food was terrible. Food was horrible.
I have never written an online review before but this was the single worst dining experience of my life and I would not wish it on anyone even my worst enemy.
SHARP METAL OBJECT FOUND IN FOOD!! – Is there anything less then 1 star?? I was taking my sisters who were visiting from out of town, and my boyfriend, to the comedy cellar (great place!!!) around the corner so we randomly walked into Ciao because of its close location for a quick dinner thinking the menu looked decent. The service was VERY poor, and I am not one to usually complain about things like that unless it is really bad. It took 40mins to recieve our food, which I think is long for salads and pasta dishes. When we did get our food I found in my dish A ONE INCH LONG METAL SCREW that looked baked into the pasta! I did not expect to find hardware in my food naturally and when my boyfriend saw it he was naturally upset and yelled "Hey!" to our waiter and waved him over. The manager saw his wave too and came over. When we showed them the screw there was not a single "I'm sorry", or any kind of sympathy for the fact that had I swallowed it I would have spent the night in the ER! Instead, the manager proceeded to YELL at my boyfriend telling him not to "disrespect the resturaunt by waving over the staff like they were dogs" which was absolutly a rediculious outlook on the situation. I think he just did not want other guests to see that I had been served a metal screw!! At first they even expected us to pay for the pasta (with the 18% tip, ha!) but that was not going to happen. I feel bad for the staff to have a manager like that, but they all seemed generally lazy anyway. Later, after the comedy show we walked by and saw the manager yelling at another customer and making a scene outside. DONT GO TO THIS PLACE... maybe if they close down a new place with better staff and better food would open in this location!! Aside from the drama, the food its self was nothing to write home about. The pasta was undercooked and sauses were "bla". Had the meal gone smoothly I would still not likely return.
STOLE My Money!! – Food was just bad, Pasta was stale. But the biggest issue I had was the creepy and shady service going on. The total came to 83.44, *tip included* (even though there were only 3 people being served), so I gave the waiter $90.00. 10 minutes goes by and no change. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Oh, you guys were SO great I just thought I'd give you an extra $6.56 for your service on top of a large tip that you didn't deserve. Um..NO?!?
When I told him what he had done he was surprised and gave me $6.00 back. So basically this restaurant STOLE my my 56 cents!! I'm sorry but I live in Manhattan and I NEED any change I can get, and It's mine anyway! But nevertheless I left without saying anything, furious and disappointed. Hmph.
