bunch in Washington Heights. I'm happy Emilou's is open again and we went today for brunch. I don't mean to sound snobby, but Washington Heights is not known for its selection of high caliber restaurants. So when I find one that's pretty good, I'll do my best to support it. I wasn't blown away by the service (we had to ask for water and coffee refills, and then the waiter brought a nearly empty bottle of ketchup for a table of 6 where almost *everyone* had fries...) and the food was good but not amazing (the breakfast wrap is something I could easily make in my own kitchen and the over-easy eggs were cooked dry), but with that said, I will happily go back. the way I see it, if I need to impress an out-of-town guest I'll take them downtown. if I want to hang with my neighbors and have some grub and a mimosa, I'll go to Emilou's.
Airy, funky vibe -- drinks are good, but the desserts are better!. I just started going to Emilou's, and it's my favorite place to grab lunch on my days off or coffee and dessert with friends. The environment is airy and relaxed, with chill, exotic music playing in the background and a friendly, attentive waitstaff. The sandwiches are good, especially for the price. (Fruit shakes are a little watery for my taste.) I would definitely recommend the desserts! They're big enough to split, so make sure you bring a friend.
Soo happy Emilou's Cafe re-opened!. I take it this is a listing for Emilou's Cafe. I hear this is owned by the same people who own Jesse's across the street. We like both places but now that Emilou's has re-opened following renovations, we lean more towards Emilou's - it's less expensive, a bit more casual, and we don't have to walk all the way up the hill to get to it, LOL! Seriously, though, love the variety here - everything from smoothies to hummus, to sandwiches and full entrees, plus beer and wine, can be had here. There's not a lot of places in the area that offer that kind of variety(except, uh, Jesse's). Food is delicious - better than Jesse's and also a better value - and service is friendly. The thing that would make this place absolutely perfect is outdoor seating, maybe in the back?? Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part, but one can always hope...
