Bar 29 is mighty Fine Great for games. I was looking for a place to hang for a small party and AccessGotham booked us for free. We also got a free round of Yummy Skinny Margaritas. That's the drink NYC Housewife made millions off. Cute hipsters, singing, shooting pool. All round good time.
Great!.
Last March 2011, me and my entourage ended up having a couple of drinks in this bar. Up to now, I find myself going back there every now and then (mostly every other week). Last night 11/16/11, me, my brother and his associate went there for a couple of drinks/shots to end the night. Sonja was there and she's a great bartender!!! I believe that she bar tends there almost everyday of the week (not sure though). She has an awesome personality, in fact she even greeted us when we were just coming in the bar. She quickly recognizes people which I personally like, because honestly i don't like going to bars where i don't know the people running the place (it gives you a sense of uneasiness or a feeling that you're not welcome). I like the small pool table and Dart board that we've utilized ever now and then. And the Wings!!! When you're craving for beer and wings, you should go here... I haven't even mentioned the fact that they have LCD screen tv's that's pretty much sports oriented (w/c I prefer... GO GIANTS!!!)...
All in all the ambiance of this place is great! Most often than not, the songs that they're playing are awesome. I love hanging out in this place not because of the location, but because of the people in it... The bartenders and managers are really great and they make you feel welcome...
I encourage everyone in the area to drop by and check out what they have to offer and you'll see what I'm talking about... ciao!
Bad Management and Service.
Was there back in August and had a bad experience with the bartender/manager Sonja, a relative of one of the owners. I was with a friend and we decided to take advantage of their advertised $3 tater tots when ordered with any other item on the menu, and we chose the chicken strips. We got the items soon after, and thought everything was fine. But, when it came time to pay for the bill, Sonja had somehow split the check beforehand and then combined it, and overcharged the bill by $2 since she somehow decided to charge us for the full priced tater tots instead of what was advertised on the menu sign. Sonja became extremely argumentative after I brought up the issue with her, to the point of even blaming us for the error by saying that we ordered the wrong items, until finally admitting she could have keyed the order incorrectly. But even after that she still refused to take any action to correct the bill after charging my credit card and kept her attitude problem going.
I was finally able to get the overcharged amount corrected by another manager after a couple of weeks, but no one working at the bar has directly admitted to me that Sonja was the cause of the error on the bill. I strongly recommend avoiding this place completely since the owners allow their relatives like Sonja to work as managers while they attempt to rip people off by deliberately charging more than what is advertised.
Best Spot to watch a Football Game!.
Bar 29 is hands down the best place in the city to go with a group of friends to watch a Football game. Every year my friends and I organize a big reunion and catch a day of Football there. Every year we have AccessGotham. com set us up with the event, which makes the day so easy!
We always get the open bar, and we all get whacked while catching and watching some Football. Check this spot out!
Great Friendly Place. Thank goodness not like Tonic. Our group organized a social event at Tonic but an hour into our event our group of 65 walked out of Tonic and went to Bar29. Bar29 saved our event. Best of all, they made our event. I highly recommend them. Don't let the size of the place scare you. What they lack in size they make up for in hospitality and service.
Citysearch Editorial Profile. Pool tables, darts, and seven HD TV screens gives Bar 29 a classic sports bar feel. And let's not forget their free beer with a sandwich deal during lunch hours. At this Midtown spot, the vibe is casual, the people are friendly, and the beer selection isn't bad either.
Good Times. Went there kind of late this past Saturday night. Pretty good looking crowd and liely. As the place started to thin out a little, the jukebox started playing some classics. The bartenders were fun and lively as the customers started ordering shots. Just a fun vibe. Guys shooting pool. Girls singing along to the box. Felt like the neighborhood bar I've been looking for in the area.
Great Place!!. This is a great place. I went there with a group of friends and we had a blast. The staff were friendly, great music and shooting some pool was fun. Love the place and would definitly go back.
Not impressed. The renovations and name change were a great idea, but that's all you are getting. The place is too small for what they are trying to be, and that is places like Tonic, The Hill etc
love the changes. Recently walked by BAR 29 and saw that they had changed the name from Makers. The changes are great, the place is a good spot to shoot some pool, enjoy fairly priced drinks and pregame before you go out.
