On the plus side, I do like the boutique-chic idea of a small business, novelty movie store in the land of Blockbusters. Great selection of foreign, arthouse, classic and current release mainstream films. On the con side, movies are alphabetized by director, so if you are looking for a movie and don't know the director's last name... well, good luck in your search. The staff varies from being completely disinterested to mildly helpful, but they def. don't go out of their way to make renting a vid. easy. Also, it's hard to get used to the 36 hour rental with the all of the online movie rental options or cable on demand. The late fees add up fast. In theory I'd like to see the place make it - but I think they're going to have to become a little more user-friendly. Check it out once and then see what you think.
Pros: selection, charm of independent run business
Cons: movie arrangement (hard to find what you want), service varies dep. on person

We live 100 feet from Cinema Nolita, but have switched to Netflix and Video on Demand. The store's employees have repeatedly proven to be unresponsive, rude, and in one particularly egregious case, both physically and verbally abusive -- telling us to "go F- yourself" while pushing us out of the store. This behavior was so shocking that we debated whether to file a police report. What's more, the store is so intent on proving its own cinematic cool that it rarely has a movie you might actually want to see. Call us crazy, but when it comes down to it, Norwegian silent cinema is not what we're looking for. How eagerly we'd like to support a small, local business. But we've since moved our patronage elsewhere. Cinema Nolita, we've just upped our monthly Netflix service to three movies. We wait quietly for your demise.
Pros: None.
Cons: Dazed, aloof, and at times verbally-abusive employees. Use Netflix instead.
