L'atelier Salon by Morgan and Paul
Owner
"Owners and partners Morgan and Paul opened a new edition to Christopher Street, L'atelier in May 2005. L'atelier is a high-end salon without the snooty high-end vibe. Morgan offers his clients not only impeccable service, a friendly staff, and soothing music, but he'll also offer you a glass of wine and great conversation. Having been through the Bumble and Bumble too cool for school mill, I loved the personal feel of this neighborhood salon. The dark wood flowers, white brick walls, black and white photos, and floral arrangements create a comfortable chic."

Great Cuts, Great Color, Great Place!
by rachelu1
attention all girls in search of the perfect messy pixie cut!!!i have being getting my hair cut by david s. for going on 15 years now and when he moved downtown to L'Atelier Salon by Morgan and Paul, i was thrilled. it is an intimate place: small without being claustrophobic, friendly without being annoying. the atmosphere is hip but also inviting--i actually look forward to the hours i spend there. morgan is a convivial, happy presence and his particular brand of french charm is infectious. as for david, he give the best short haircut i've ever had--very textured and beautifully shaped, in my case with streaks of platinum painted throughout my ashy blond hair. as far as cost goes, the prices seem to be in the mid-range by manhattan standards, but i have gotten so many compliments over the years that it's well worth it. david has great instincts when it comes to both cut and color, and he's incredibly nice! who could ask for anything more?
- Pros: great group of stylists who really seem to care and take pride in their work
- Cons: none that i can think of
Best Japanese Hair Straightening experience with Eric
by dan150
Long, thick and frizzy unmanageable hair.. I'm the perfect candidate for Japanese hair straightening (aka Thermal Reconditioning ). My first time was Salon Mai, midtown on 55th street. The first time was remarkable: silky hair, easy to maintain: a dream come true. The second and third times not so great. My hair was more brittle and dry. The first Japanese stylist was long gone and replaced by much younger and noticeably less experienced staff. Finally they closed last year and I was wondering where to turn for my next treatment. A friend, regular customer of Morgan's salon, told me that Eric was specialized in Thermal Reconditioning... so off I went. The result was AWESOME! Eric blew my prior experiences away. I barely saw the time (5 hours) go by because we had such a nice time....the salon is really friendly. The result was the most beautiful straight silky hair ever. He uses the top of the line Liscio products (from Japan I believe) and follows up with strong recommendations on products to use to maintain the best result. (I was never recommended follow-up products before and believe me the advice was precious). It's been a couple of months now and my hair is still fantastic. As soft as this procedure is supposed to be it's still a relax and can be botched. Hair can easily get damaged (I realize now that my last session at Salon Mai was a close call) so the best advice is to head for the best professionals. I will be due for another treatment in about 2 or 3 months from now and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Eric inspires me unconditional trust. Highly, highly recommended. Cherry on the cake... I walked out with a fabulous blowdry too. That's important since you cannot touch your hair for 3 days or wet it for a week after the treatment.
See Hector!
by suzyy15
I went to L'atelier salon while on vacation in NYC. I am from Toronto. All I have to say is, see Hector, he was my knight in shinning armour! Unfotunately with a young toddler I have no time for myself, so before my trip out here I dyed my hair with drugstore bought colour and applied it myself while my daughter was alseep. It was a disaster! The colour was very light and it completely washed out my complexion. I found L'atelier through my hotel's concierge but as I approached the place, it seemed quite posh and pretenious. Hector was the exact opposite, he was down to earth, honest about my hair and extremely hillarious. I had a blast while my he fixed my colour. He immediately knew what colour would best suit my skin tone and recommended that he do a trim. He totally brought out the shape of my face and made me look thinner. The best part was that he recognized that I didnt have time for myself and made me feel so appreciated for my sacrifice as a new mother. Something we expect from our husbands! Do yourself a favour and SEE HECTOR!!!
