The Scene – The restaurant's popularity is due in no small part to co-owners John McDonald and Steve Hanson, who've brought their mix of PR buzz and exquisite design sense to this sprawling space. It feels more intimate than its 250 seats, thanks to a series of cutout screens and a cluster of whimsical hanging lanterns made from tree trunks. – – The Food – Guacamole is made tableside, so you can dictate just how spicy you want it. The kitchen satisfies with starters like rich tostaditas with avocado and chipotle-tomato-roasted pork and lighter, yet just as flavorful,…

Disappointment

by wahbjo01

Went for restaurant week earlier this year and had a disappointing experience. We were sat in the back, which is fine for me, but while the restaurant was empty, two couples were seated in the adjacent tables (1 1/2 feet apart) while the rest of the room remained empty. Twice couples asked to be seated somewhere else and were granted this request, but they just kept trying to fill the adjacent tables. My girlfriend and I both ordered the steak for an entree, which was tough, rubbery, overcooked and smothered in an unpleasant attempt at a mole sauce. Furthermore our waiter just seemed uninterested in our experience. He came, took our order and he delivered our check. Great in a diner, not in a NYC restaurant. Never asked how our food was, never checked to see if we wanted a drink refill, nothing. Don't bother going, it's all hype.

  • Pros: Looks fun from the outside looking in
  • Cons: food wasn't quality, service was unimpressive

Loud restaurant

good food but loud interior; and generally just not pleasant if you want to talk to your dinner mates.

  • Pros: food
  • Cons: noise
